Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that sans serif fonts aren’t suited for world-class diplomacy and ordered the department to drop Calibri in favor of Times New Roman, reversing a Biden-era policy intended to help employees who are visually impaired.
Calibri font banished as U.S. diplomacy returns to Times New Roman
Secretary of State Marco Rubio called the Biden administration’s shift to a sans serif font, to assist people with vision issues, a “wasteful” diversity move.

The goal of healthcare is not to increase the GDP

It’s to make people healthy & tend to the sick. It’s not supposed to be a money making scheme

Dr Oz saying that to “flourish in life” you must engage in the workforce is useless eater rhetoric

He wants you to see the sick & disabled as expendable

Nothing like RFK Jr's nonsense to make you feel awkward. Over the years, I have come to appreciate and celebrate my autistic-ness, and it really sucks to continually see headlines that imply that being like you is devastating or the worst thing that can happen to someone.

Oh. Look. Special education students are being stripped of their accessibility devices due to the gen ed need to ban cellphones in the classroom.

Exactly the thing I’ve been warning about bc I know how SpEd gets treated.

It’s easy to speak up for those who are the same as you

For people you like or empathize with

The true test is whether you will speak out for those you don’t care about or identify with

For those who you don’t like

Everyone deserves the same basic rights & we must fight for all or we all lose

I'm thinking a lot lately about Hadrian's Wall, which had hypocausts. After the Romans left, it took England 1,300 years to reinvent steam heating. If we think nothing like that can happen to us, we are delusional.

Not only can working from home make you happier, for many disabled people it allows them to remain in the workforce

It gives them autonomy & independence. Flexibility to attend doctors appointments and care for their health

It’s a crucial accommodation, and removing it will harm disabled lives

McMahon: I’d have to get back to you

For kids with complex health issues, Medicaid is the difference between staying with family and being forced into a nursing home as a child.

Private insurance doesn't want to cover home care. Medicaid has to.
I wish journalists would stop framing political news as wins or losses for politicians or political parties. It’s an abrogation of our mission. Why do we keep doing this? Is the spending bill a win or loss for the American people? Who does it help? Who does it hurt? Is it sound policy? Fiscally?

I am again begging people to understand that "that's illegal!" only matters if somebody does something about it. This includes "that's unconstitutional!"

Turns out that these things are all agreements, not immutable laws of the universe.

People want to believe that health is 100% in their control... That if they do the "right" things, they'll stay "healthy".

Truth is that it doesn't work like that.
Most of our "health" is out of our control.
We can only reduce risks

Was recently on an interview panel in which we were told em dashes indicate AI use.

Y’all, no. Just no. Em dashes aren’t archaic. They’re standard punctuation used by many, many ppl use them every day. Stop your nonsense.

It’s not AI. It’s just punctuation.

FYI: In the U.S., Head Start is an educational program for preK kids. It focuses on connecting families to necessary resources, as the most successful students are housed, fed, healthy, supported, & given early educational opportunities.

It’s a federal program.

$0 have been allocated for 2026.
