"Indeed, the keenest horror is that there’s now such a clear financial incentive to be in the deportation business. ... Already investors can see that the potential fiscal returns for exploiting human suffering are higher than they’ve been in over 150 years."
Opinion | How ICE’s massive cash infusion is poised to transform America
Republicans gave $45 billion to help ICE detain hundreds of thousands of immigrants — and another $100 billion to further supercharge Trump’s mass deportations.

With funding cuts to the National Park Service they’re not able to mow (mowing contracts require funds in the budget), the tick population is exploding.
By early next summer, as they search for a second blood meal to fuel their nymphal life stage, these ticks will pose a danger to human health.
How Lyme Disease Became Unstoppable
There was nothing inevitable about the Lyme epidemic. Then humans disrupted the environment and fueled an era of tick-borne diseases.

I try to mostly keep to writing in this space, but we all need to speak out against the cruelty of this administration. I stand in solidarity with those in LA and around the country who are standing up and speaking out.

Time for a big book rec: Bad Company, by old friend @greenwell.bsky.social. It comes out today. Hand to heart, I would've read this book cover to cover even if I didn't know the author at all. It's legit. bookshop.org/p/books/bad-...

San Diego. Minneapolis. The urgency is showing and I’ve never been this confident that the people will win. I’ve never been this proud to be an American. From the bottom-up is how we fix this. We walk in fear but we walk together. Thank you. We have a role to play where we can. We all get to choose.

I think we’ve reached a boiling point when it comes to ICE.

Today in Minneapolis, a militarized task force raided the beloved Lake Street taqueria, Las Cuatro Milpas—and the community was not having it.

Agents from ICE, the DEA, FBI, ATF, IRS and HHS rolled up looking like they were ready for war.

Two parents made particularly poignant statements that must be heard.

New from me: Trump promised his followers that he would deport criminals. For Stephen Miller ‘criminal’ always meant anyone here he doesn’t like, regardless if they committed a crime or not
Opinion | Stephen Miller always planned on deporting immigrant moms
Trump's supporters were told mass deportations would focus on criminals. His homeland security adviser has always had his own definition of "criminal."

FYI to media outlets, you're misleading your readers if you repeat this at face value.

There's no lawful way for him to redirect these grants elsewhere. It's a lie to distract from how the GOP budget guts educational funding, including Pell Grants at trade schools.

I don’t mean to alarm anyone but I think I did a bird watching today? Like I saw a bird and I was like “Ooh I think that’s an Oriole” and I googled it and it WAS an Oriole and then I just sat there and watched it for a while until it flew away and honestly 10/10 no notes at all

New from me: The House GOP moved ahead with its plans to slash SNAP spending in the sneakiest way possible. By shifting costs to states but delaying it until after the midterms, they’re hoping to get credit for cutting spending with none of the backlash

The House Agriculture Committee approved $300 billion in cuts to SNAP benefits in order to pay for a massive tax cut for the wealthy.

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!
