The Bayeux Tapestry's borders have a lot of charming images too. Here, left to right: (1) a mule-powered plough team; (2) farmer sowing seeds; (3) horse-drawn harrow covering the seeds and leveling the soil.

This was very much a world of both ploughshares & swords.

I have been a bit bored over Christmas, so I started working on a little blog post about good academic writing for my group. I was wondering, what are key things you have learned about academic writing that you wish you would have known earlier?  🧪 #AcademicSky

Asked this on the other site and have been getting some great answers, so I'll repeat it here!

What advice do you have for working through the early to middle stages of a dissertation? I'd especially love to hear from folks who are in the late stages of the dissertation!

Incredibly impressive work! 📜
I can finally spill the beans! Kurt Burmeister & I have been working for months digitizing a set of Thomas Sopwith's 1841 hand-carved geology block models now housed at the Killhope Museum. Lina Jakaité animated the models into this amazing video for #GSA2023.
