"Some 80 per cent of the world lives in countries that import coal, gas, petrol and diesel to power their lives, whereas 92 per cent of countries have the potential to generate renewable energy more than 10 times their current demand."

Very interesting read indeed!

Another Christmas classic, perhaps slightly less known globally, but an emotional, sensitive and very respectful retelling of the age old story.

We need to get our arms out of the US machine. Regulate US companies out of our countries. It’s as big a security threat as Russia.
NEW: last night, the US govt launched an assault on the ‘global censorship industrial complex’, aka European tech researchers/campaigners.

It’s a deeply chilling move & speaks as to why we need international solidarity more than ever.

This video will probably get fewer likes than my posts on taxing billionaires. That difference says it all. Factory farming only survives if we don’t look. It’s time to hold these companies accountable. Every donation is matched, so $1 becomes $2 through Dec 31, 2025. Donate: MoralAmbition.org/food

Letter to the FT that stingingly sums up Brexit and the shit creek we now find ourselves in.
A terrible idea (naive, prejudiced and uninformed) that has deeply divided us and left us poorer and less secure… but unwilling to face up to the damage we’ve done to ourselves. While the EU moves on.

Interesting to compare to London UK, which Trump said had crazy crime levels. London's population is 9m which is slightly smaller than the Chicago metropolitan area of 9.4m. No. of murders in London in 2024 is 107, 60 for the first 9 months of 2025. 570 for the whole UK in 2024.
I count 10 cities in 2025 that are on track to have the fewest murders since at least 1970. Newark is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1956 (though only have data through Oct this year) and San Francisco is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1942.

'La toilette.' (1914) Firmin Baes was a master of using pastel, characterized by a velvet-like quality to the surface, a result so finished that it resembles an oil painting. Several artist friends have tried to create this work in oils and failed.

Fox hunting is a revolting sport. It's only survived in any form because it's done by ghastly, entitled, influential and aristocratic people who feel it's the God given right to charge about the place in silly costumes tearing animals apart for no good reason.
