This is astounding. The @michigandaily.bsky.social upstages every single legacy outlet in the country when it comes to exposing the underbelly of higher education. Just tremendous work.

I'm always very open about the fact that I received SNAP benefits and Medicaid for a bit after I fled my abusive husband with my little kid in tow. I used it to help me start over in a new state and go back to school to get my BA. I now have a PhD.
SNAP benefits saved my life.

More than 1800 detainees are missing after the closure of Alligator Alcatraz. Their families and lawyers can’t find them and they’ve vanished from the ICE database. Feels like this should be a much bigger story www.miamiherald.com/news/local/i...
Hundreds of Alligator Alcatraz detainees drop off the grid after leaving site
As of the end of August, the whereabouts of two-thirds of more than 1,800 men detained at Alligator Alcatraz during the month of July could not be determined by the Miami Herald.

ICE killed a father of three in Franklin Park a few days ago. They are snatching people at gas stations, at bus stops, and from their homes and cars, leaving screaming, panicked children in their wake. It is a nightmare, and when ICE has amassed 10,000 new agents, it could be the new normal.

Acknowledging that we are living under a fascist regime at the Federal level is essential for figuring out how to fight. And I'm sorry but burying one's head in the sand at this moment is actually allowing fascism to be further entrenched & authority more easily consolidated.

Ons thing that's really bugging me about the "PhD level intelligence" is that a PhD isn't a measure of intelligence, it's a measure of commitment to study and specialisation in a narrow field (and opportunity to do so).

"PhD level intelligence" isn't really a meaningful phrase

This isn't going to get the attention of Columbia, but it's at least as bad: the University of Maine is having its funding cut off because the governor of Maine dared to challenge Trump.
I'm appalled by the USDA's decision to pause funding to the University of Maine System.

This will hurt our farmers, halt critical research, and impact students throughout Maine.

Once again, our state is being targeted for retribution—all because our officials are standing up for the rule of law.

During Mexican Repatriation in the 1930s, 60% of Mexicans who were coerced, tricked, and forced to leave were U.S. citizens. Many were Mexican American children. Whole communities and families were torn apart. How do we stop history from repeating itself?
I’ve been organizing undocumented parents to write directives and wills for the care of their children. Heartbreaking and necessary work. How are you organizing to support the most vulnerable in your community ?
How are you organizing to support communities when the massive deportations come?
