Tom's Watch bar, opening in a non-historic space in Pioneer Square, is going back to the Pioneer Square preservation board next week for its third meeting. At issue? The exact number of inches that the bar's exterior sign can be to comply with historic district guidelines.

Democrats and Republicans worked together to make sure New York only received back a fraction of what it paid in federal taxes, instead sending money outwards to poorer states, but that's not enough for Republicans. They want to *zero out* NYers' infrastructure spending but keep their tax money.

Fondly (???) remembering when Arthur Schwartz screamed for months on end that a busway on 14th St. would make 13th St an impassable traffic sewer, and everyone who knew about traffic said he was wrong. Amazing how the things smart people say always end up being right.

simply having more renters in elected office would make a huge difference, bc they’d understand what their constituents are going through
A challenge for the politics of abundance is that most elected officials are insulated from direct economic harms of the status quo. If you bought your home 20 yrs ago, rents rising faster than income doesn’t squeeze *your* monthly budget. (Spillover effects are real but harder to explain.)
