Me: a boy, I used to look more like a girl but then I turned into a boy
Nephew: How???

Lots of people sharing this clip because it's funny and cathartic but I also genuinely believe it's important.

We have to win the narrative battle between "I live in a corrupt society and that's just how it is" and "I live in a corrupt society and we are going to defeat and humiliate these ghouls."
Good morning to Brazilian reporter Manuela Borges, who’s been waiting eleven years for this petty moment. ❤️ 🇧🇷

For @letterboxd, I was thrilled to talk to Kleber Mendonça Filho about one of my favourite films of the year, THE SECRET AGENT. We chat archives, novelas, masculinity in a post-Bolsonaro Brazil, the brilliant Udo Kier and cultural hegemony. I could talk about this film forever and a little more.

I cannot recommend this movie enough if you're looking to honor the passing of Udo Kier. Trust me - you do not know where this movie is going until you get there. Such a great flick...
If you're looking for an Udo Kier film to watch, may I recommend BACURAU (2019), starts off like a worthy slice of sociopolitical realism and ends up as demented Brazilian neo-western exploitation. Don't read anything else, just see it. Contains one of my favourite film moments of the 21st century.

I was scolded by a civil society rep in Brazil for praising this intervention by Colombia. But I stand by it till the end. We need more straightshooters and we need to embarrass both the 190+ Parties present and thepresidencies that don't focus on fossil fuels from the beginning.
1/2. “The COP of Truth cannot ignore science. 75% of carbon emissions come from fossil fuels. Today we are not even allowed to discuss pathways for a just and equitable transition away from fossil fuels.” Colombia at the close of #COP30.

COP30 overpromised, underdelivered, empowered distractions, backtracked on issues and once again gave big oil and big ag a free pass.

Unfortunately, the suspicions of climate scientists (here in Brazil and abroad) were confirmed again.

Climate diplomacy is failing us, no matter which country hosts the COPs.
As long as this system keeps granting so much access to the fossil fuel and agribusiness climate arsonists (aka lobbyists), we'll keep being told to celebrate minor progressive language and new meetings to set meetings.
