Neurodivergent Students Don’t Need a Calm Corner, They a Whole Classroom Rooted in Calm, Connection, and Compassion
“Just make a calm-down space in your room!” they say, as if emotional regulation can be solved with a bean bag chair, a glitter jar, and a cute sign that says “breathe.” But here’s what so many people...

Smith finally said it out loud...

She doesn't believe that government should be providing any services to Albertans, she believes that private companies should be used universally to provide services.

Faith groups should take care of the vulnerable.

Remember: If we allow ourselves to fall into fatalism, or wallow in disappointment, or become resigned to what is rather than what should be, we will lose the long game.

The greatest enemy of positive social change is cynicism about what can be changed.

Most disabled people don’t claim disability benefits…

Many of those would be eligible, but they either choose not to, or are alienated from the process by how horrific it is.

People vastly overestimate how many claim, how we are deemed eligible, and how much we get.

Executive dysfunction ≠ laziness

Autistic people can swing between “Can’t stop till I’m done” and “Can’t start no matter how much I want (or need) to”

It can be SO hard for others to understand, especially when most take executive function for granted

But executive dysfunction is a disability

Being particular when you're autistic isn't about preferences. It's a coping strategy because minor differences cause us massive, sometimes debilitating anxiety. We're not being particular to annoy you. We're being particular to protect ourselves from being hijacked and assaulted by our own brains.

Always find it interesting that nearly every profession that involves care has lower priority and esteem in western white culture. Anything that involves the exploitation of resources and people is more rewarded and esteemed.

And most people never question that.

Autism affects how people communicate, process information, and experience the world

It’s not always visible but it very much shapes who we are & what we do. There is never any moment in which we’re NOT autistic

We cannot be separated from our autism, despite what some ppl think

Autistic masking isn’t just hiding who we are.

It’s managing how others feel about who we are.

It’s rewriting our tone.

Softening our truth.

Absorbing the discomfort of others.

And when we burn out - they call us difficult instead of drained.

They attack instead of offering grace.

Smith not only claims the province is actively trying to convince municipalities to get rid of the RCMP, she also makes it very clear that she wants a provincial police force so she can decide what laws are enforced.
