Nothing says America First like bailing out Argentina while making healthcare unaffordable for 20+ million Americans.

Or signing an Article 5 protection treaty with Qatar coz they bribed you with a plane, while screwing over longstanding NATO allies.

Folks, I think America First might be a scam.

my wife is a Cal fan and apparently this week they’re putting a “59” on their football helmets to honor the 59 Nobel laureates tied to Cal in order to flex on Duke

this is maybe my favorite dunk anyone has ever done on Duke

What’s more astonishing: 1) that the president clearly believes, and repeatedly suggests, that asylum seekers are people from mental asylums, or 2) that no journalist has ever challenged him on this and no mainstream media outlets have done any deep dives on this story?

In fragrance the word linear seems to be considered a perjorative (e.g. "Linear and lacking in complexity") but in teaching not so much. I remember an advisor at Cal describing someone's lectures as "perhaps less linear than most" to rather diplomatically hint that the lectures were a chaotic mess!

SOTD: Clinique My Happy Indigo Mist

"A blend of bluebells, wet green notes of melon and violet leaf, cashmeran and orris root."

I heard this was a good sub for Mariel and I do enjoy it quite a bit. The melon note reminds me a bit of Aqua Allegoria Flora Salvaggia's

This is what an authoritarian regime would do. Hidden deep in Trump’s 1,100-page bill that passed the House today is a provision that would block federal courts from enforcing contempt charges against government officials who violate court orders.

Thought I might share a life story from a few months ago to brighten your day. Back in March, I spotted a raccoon on the side of the interstate that had very clearly been run over. I pulled over thinking I’d have to put it out of its misery. We ended up becoming good friends.

A reminder that every small bit of good you do - whether it be putting art into the world, helping a friend or stranger, donating to a good cause, or just listening to someone who needs to vent - offsets all the evil in the world just a little bit. And sometimes that's just what the world needs.

I hope all the people offering praise in her Twitter comments end up being right that this was a good article to write because it is giving major "that leopard sure made me feel seen before he ate my face" vibes
I’ve been thinking a lot about this guest essay in the NYT today. There are a number of very dangerous and disturbing aspects to it.

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!

He managed to take something away from segregationists. And it's not trivial. In my 40% Black high school in the north, several of my textbooks gave a photo of Strom Thurmond filibustering half a freaking page

That shit is gone, now. That's a victory they can no longer use to gloat over CHILDREN.

23 hours in, and Sen. Cory Booker is STILL going strong—speaking from the same podium racist Strom Thurmond used to filibuster civil rights in '57 (24 hrs, 18 mins).

Can't wait for justice when Booker blows past that disgraceful record.

History, meet your redemption.
