Beautiful Windermere. The sun shines through the clouds and mist rolls off the hills in the distance, partly obscuring them. Tree branches frame the photograph in an artful, tasteful fashion indicating the photographer was a man of style and refinement (he was). A lake cruiser boat is at the jetty on the right hand side. A landscape oriented image of Derwent Water at dawn. It was a beautiful sunrise with soft pastel colours in the sky and reflected in the lake. Across the top third Derwent Island is on the left, it’s covered in fir trees that have a boathouse nestled in their midst. Beyond the island on the right is Catbells, above both is the wonderful sky. The bottom two thirds is the lake and the sky reflections. Entering the lake in the bottom right corner is the track they use to launch boats, it looks a little like train tracks, and serves to lead us into the image.

A landscape oriented winter image looking down on Tarn Hows in the Lake District.

The image is in layers, the first thin layer is water, the next is a spit of land that’s jutting out into the tarn, you can’t see the end of it so the next layer, more of the tarn appears to be another body of water. There are a couple of small islands in the tarn with fir trees growing on them. We then have the far bank and the tree growing on that (oh and there are trees on the right hand side of the spit too). Snow is falling and dusk is fast approaching, the two act to defuse the distance mountains. The final layer is the cloud that’s sat on the mountains.

Snow is covering the land, but not the tree branches so they stand out green in an image, that with the snow and dusk, is predominantly blue hues.
