A landscape image of the beautiful beach at St Bees on the Cumbrian coast. Looming large in the foreground from the right side and running on into the image are large boulders all worn smooth by the sea. They are all sorts of colours red, yellow, blue, cream…… Above them are cliffs, they run on through the image and round into the headland.

A landscape image of an autumn scene. Taken in Chatsworth gardens, a favourite haunt of mine, on a woodland path. The path runs into the photo almost in the centre either side of it are trees. Three conifers on the left and three deciduous on the right bedecked in orange and gold leaves. The floor is heavily scattered with leaves as autumn is fast coming to a close. I’ve titled the image The Alliance as the two types of trees are coming together across the path.

A very stripped back minimal image. A foggy morning with little visibility and I have focused in on a bed of reeds growing out of the edge of the tarn. They come in from the right hand side and work their way across the image reducing in number as they do so. Beyond them we can just make out the shape of shrubs on the far bank but no detail. Above the shrubs is nothing but fog. A perfect morning for me 😁

I love the details of flowers at all stages of their lives. This is a black and white photograph of a simple hydrangea as it turns to its skeletal form. All we see is the flower head on a white background making all the details pop.

Landscape oriented image. Down the entire left hand side of the image are the branches of a Japanese maple with vivid yellow and orange leaves as it displays its autumn colours. Along the bottom is a moss covered rock, there are more moss covered rocks central in the image. They are large rocks and feature mature trees that seem to be growing out of them. Other than the rocks the image is filled with trees. The acer and the two on the rocks are the subjects of the image.

A late evening landscape oriented image of Durham City taken in February, so it is completely dark, from the vantage point of a bridge over the River Wear. Running from left to right is a weir, that works as a lead in line. There is a bridge crossing the river at the furthest point of it we see. Again coming in from the left are shops and houses with lights on in most of the windows. Almost central up in the night sky are the towers of the cathedral.

A landscape oriented black and white image. It’s taken in dense woodland that has a track running up through it. The track doubles back on itself as it rises through the wood my position is standing on the extreme outside of the bend so across the bottom third of the image the track looms large and retreats back into the scene on both sides. In the middle of the bend is a large redwood growing up and out of the image, as do the trees on the each side of the image.

Taken in the courtyard/cloister area of the Doge’s Palace in Venice on a wet and rainy day. The bottom half of the image is the wet tiles that form the floor of the courtyard, there is a large ornate water feature in the middle. The top of the image of os made up of arches that form the two tiers of the cloisters. Two arches in from the right hand side stands an elegantly dressed lady with an umbrella. She has her back to us as she is posing for whoever she is with, they are not visible.

A landscape oriented image. I’m standing in the cloisters right up in a corner, in front of me sunlight is streaming in through the glassless cloister windows, Canterbury cathedral they are wonderful old stone windows. The light cast lovely shadows on the paved stone floor.

Framing the View A landscape oriented image. The frame is filled with a variety of trees, all moving into their autumn colours. A deciduous tree holds us in on the left and a tall redwood on the right. Across the bottom is a small strip of grass and above some lovely red leaves shrubs. Central in the image and the main focal point is an old stone arch. It’s one of the arches that leads into the maze in Chatsworth gardens. The Great Conservatory A landscape oriented image. Three large trees in their autumn splendour virtually fill the frame. Two on the left and one on the right, their shadows starch away from us diagonally left to right on the ground. The composition is taken from low down in order to see below their canopys. Between the trees in the distance is the Great Conservatory. A wonderful building in Chatsworth gardens. Secret Garden A landscape oriented image. The main focus of the image is a Japanese Maple, its vibrant red in colour. The trunk runs up left side of the frame and the branches arch across the image until they reach another acer on the right. A path runs into the image down the centre of the image, working as a lead in line. Rose Garden A stitches panoramic image. There is quite fence fog which isolates the subject of the image. The rose garden at Chatsworth. It sits centrally boarded by two tightly clipped yew hedges. Stone columns run across the front and topiary yews within it. A beautiful old stone building sits at the back. To the far side of the rose garden, just outside of it, is a splendid holm oak vibrant orange even in the fog. A couple of other trees can be made out in the background but nothing else because of the fog.

A landscape oriented black and white image. It’s in a fairly dense woodland and the frame is filled with trees other than a small strip of bracken and grass along the bottom. On the left third is a multi stem tree. It’s quite young and very tangled in its growth, there are branches in all directions. It’s a deciduous tree of some sort, we’re in winter so there are no leaves. The background trees are predominately pine. We can’t see the tops of any of the trees. It’s a little misty and quite atmospheric.

Autumn in the garden at Chatsworth House. A path leads into the image and under a splendid Japanese Maple tree that frames the left side of the image and arches over the path. It’s wonderful shades of red and the sun is bursting through its upper leaves. Either side of the path is foliage and the path is speckled with the red leaves of the Maple.

The water is brackish and has a backdrop of dark flat rock. The rock, very flat, leads further into the image eventually meeting trees whose branches hang down and touch the rocks. The trees are all beech and their leaves are a vivid orange. These trees fill the top third of the image.

Looking out over Derwent Water during the AM blue hour. Running into the photo from the right hand corner is a sheep fence with pond weed hanging from it, or finish’s two thirds into the image and towards the left side. The water is choppy but smoothed due to the long exposure. Catbells runs from right to left to a little beyond the central point, we then have the so called Jaws of Borrowdale. I’m not sure about the range coming in from the left. The image is topped with a fairly dramatic cloudy sky. Two small islands sit in the lake either side of the end of the sheep fence.
