Week 5 of new knee. Doing more on the static bike and started hydrotherapy in the wonderful pool at the Calvert Trust. Only 6.5 hiking miles - which are all I count for #nhs1000miles - but these included 2 Wainwright summits: Binsey (in the rain) and Little Mell Fell (in the snow)

Today: climbed 180m the to top of mighty Binsey (447m) in the rain and cloud, with my hiking buddy @kitzingercelia.bsky.social. #LakeDistrict
OTD a year ago: we climbed 610m to the McKinnon Pass - the highest point (at 1514m) on the Milford Track, in glorious sun. #NewZealand

Great progress in week 4 of new knee! 10.5 hiking miles, and back on the fells. Began a new round of post-surgery Wainwrights (with @kitzingercelia.bsky.social). Summited #Latrigg on Wed and #Ling today. So happy! #nhs1000miles

Day 25 post-left-knee replacement - and I'm back on the fells! Yippee! Gorgeous light for my first Wainwright (of Round 4): the mighty Latrigg

Week 3 post-knee-replacement surgery - I've exchanged the crutches for walking poles & walked a little over 8 miles. Also managing forward rotations on the static bike. Really pleased! Pics are from Nichol End Marine, looking (L) towards Clough Head and (R) towards the Skiddaw range #nhs1000miles

Kudos to Grasmere Players for stonking performance of Cinderella in Grasmere Hall this eve.
Loved @k12tree.bsky.social 'modernising the monarchy' as Mountain Rescue!

Good progress with my 2-week old knee: 5 miles (in 0.75-1 mile increments) this week. So lucky to live close to this wonderful scenery! #LakeDistrict #nhs1000miles

8 more hiking miles for #nhs1000miles this week (YTD 16 miles) + a new left knee yesterday! Might be rather fewer miles for the next few weeks …

A few from a wander by a part-frozen #Derwentwater this morning: another gorgeous day in the #LakeDistrict

Gentle start for #nhs1000miles 2026. 2 small Wainwright summits for 8 very frosty boots-on hiking miles. Here's us on #Dodd this morning. Pretty sure this will be my last summit before knee surgery next Sat, tho' I hope to clock a few more miles this week #LakeDistrict @kitzingercelia.bsky.social

Last (short) hike of 2025, with @kitzingercelia.bsky.social: a chilly wander over Latrigg. Here's the view over Derwentwater into Borrowdale and the high fells beyond. Happy New Year everyone!

Final check-in of the year for #nhs1000miles. My total boots-on hiking miles for 2025 is 1107. Pics are from a few unexpected miles in the last week: post shingles and pre (left) knee replacement on 10 January.

Thrilled that Mark Richards used my Nov photo of Skiddaw across Derwentwater as a reference pic for this wonderful pen-&-ink drawing. Also that his drawing illustrated Countrystride's 'Christmas Cracker' podcast: www.countrystride.co.uk @fellranger.bsky.social @countrystride.bsky.social

Well, this is one #nhs1000miles post I hadn't anticipated. It's 0 hiking miles for me this week - not because I've had a (second) knee replacement (scheduled for yesterday), but because I've gone down with shingles. It's nasty! Surgery will now be delayed for at least a month...
