Q: Just days ago you referred to Trump as a 'despot.' Will you retract?

MAMDANI: We're both very clear on our positions & what I really appreciate about the president is our meeting focused not on places of disagreement but shared purpose we have

TRUMP: I've been called much worse than a despot

Q: Are you affirming that you think President Trump is a fascist?

MAMDANI: I've spoken about--

TRUMP: That's okay. You can just say yes. I don't mind.

A thread worth reading. Good GRIEF.
I have a fun hypothetical for the technical among us! (For certain values of fun, heh.) The scenario: You run a website. It doesn't have a mobile app: the only way to access it is in-browser. You are deeply, morally opposed to any form of invasive tracking or data-gathering on your users.

Following up on this. This remains a ‘cave is minutes or hours away’ situation. If you want to impact how this plays out you need to contact senators literally now. I want to add additional points of context. What I’m relaying is what I’ve picked up from highly reliable sources.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

Immergut: You're an officer of the court. Do you believe this is appropriate way to deal with my order?

Hamilton: I'm not a policy maker

Immergut: You're a lawyer

In response, Hamilton basically argues no geographic limit to federalization of CA guard...

YES. And education, please, that can always use more funds too.
Every single one of these clips was taken today in downtown Portland. Portland doesn’t want or need a federal takeover. If Trump insists on sending federal “resources” he can start with funding health care, bridges, affordable housing, and wildfire protection to name a few.

#geekgirlcon still hasn't responded publicly to community concerns: dropping the con's long-standing mask requirement makes the con inaccessible to some community members, as though immune-compromised attendees don't deserve safety + inclusion. Breaks my heart tbh #stillmasking #covidconscious
How incredibly hypocritical for an organization that prides itself on inclusivity to exclude immune-compromised people by dropping their con's masking requirement. I hope they reconsider so that immune-compromised attendees can safely attend.
🧵 🎉 Get ready, geeks! #GeekGirlCon is coming back to #Seattle for its milestone 15th year on November 8-9, 2025, at The Arch at 800 Pike (Seattle Conference Center, formerly Washington State Convention Center). 🎉 #Fandom

This is correct. The world is WTF right now. Once, they give us a mulligan. Twice? They just nope nope nope nope with us until we come back to the table. It will take a lot of time to rebuild alliances but we will be back.

The damage done is already permanent. The free world can no longer trust the Untied States as long as Republicans are in the government and people are willing to vote for them.

In serious news: across the United States conditions are right for civil unrest. Not everywhere all at once, but in difficult to predict pockets. Some of this unrest will be well-ordered, but even peaceful protests can turn into riots.
