Sigh. "National Security Moms"? This is the Dems big strategy? "Spanberger posits that for voters sizing her up, her work at the CIA can serve as a shortcut to She’s tough. She’s hardworking. She’s thorough." I have quite a few descriptors for the CIA. None of those are on my list. Smh.

1/Here's another comparison that I know some will understand. Drug addicts have a secret they can only share with other addicts. Part of it is the thrill of doing something illegal. And that's a big part - at first. You feel like you're in a secret club - at first. You enjoy the high - at first.
1/Great piece from @jysexton.bsky.social on Epstein and the rot that continues to eat away at our society. To Jared's point, don't fall into the temptation to make this about Trump. It's not. Epstein stretches far beyond the White House and Trump, awful as he is, isn't the disease - he's a symptom.
The Epstein scandal is a symptom of a larger disease

The capture and corruption of American politics and institutions of power has created a criminal, abusive, and degenerate class of elites who believe they are untouchable and don’t care who they hurt

My great friends at Regenaissance have a bully new piece on natural wines without the hangover - theregenaissance.news/p/why-most-w.... Def. don't drink like I used to (which is good for humanity, trust), but I'm certainly not opposed to a glass now and then. Dig it! 👇🍷
Why Most Wine Gives You Hangovers — And Why This One Doesn’t
Most wine in America hides up to 75 legal additives — none of which ever show up on the label. But one winemaker is proving hangovers are optional.

1/Good morning BSky fam! Brief thoughts at the halfway point (gm @therealcavey.bsky.social!). 1st, the author points to 3 areas of Constitutional failure: 2 Senators per state, the Electoral College, and unlimited Supreme Court terms. Disagree re: Senators, feel both re: EC, agree, re: SC. 💙📚
1/Good morning fam! Oooh, I'm on a spicy new book this morning: "No Democracy Lasts Forever: How the Constitution Threatens the United States" by Erwin Chemerinsky (bookshop.org/p/books/no-d...). Just starting it, but I want to say a little bit about why I'm reading it and why you should too. 💙📚

My God, my descriptions sound surprisingly sycophantic, and I'm embarrassed. I'm leaving it up to remind myself of Walt Kelly's famous phrase and my discomfort that it might apply to me.

My apologies to (still improbably-named) @zekefaux.bsky.social for not linking to him in my review. The book is an awesome read! Altho my psyche is forever scarred by the horror of "Versace Bedouin" (yes, really) "rapper" (I cracked 3 knuckles on those air quotes), Razzlekhan - youtu.be/_DIuPPmY9mw

Message to the Democrats for '26: stay away from the AI bubble! If you hitch your wagon to Silicon Valley, you WILL get caught in the blast when the bailouts begin. The time to get on the side of the people is RIGHT NOW. I'm talking to you, Gretchen Whitmer and Josh Shapiro.

1/This 👇 I had a conversation with my Mom yesterday about Mamdani and NYC, and I realized something. In the country that invented so much of the modern world, whether it's healthcare, rent control, grocery stores, etc., we're conditioned to be deathly afraid of ideas that upset the status quo.
Always relevant!

1/If you haven't seen the Hurricane Katrina doc on Netflix, I highly recommend it. It's gut wrenching, anger inducing, and heartwarming sometimes all in the same scene. It's been *20 years* y'all. Unbelievable. Pay attention to the residents of the Lower 9th Ward. They can teach us all about FEMA.

1/Good morning BSky fam! A quick book recommendation this morning: "The Accommodation: The Politics of Race in an American City" by Jim Schutze (bookshop.org/p/books/the-...) about Dallas in the 1940s and 50s. It's an eye opener about the politics and reality of race back in the "good old days". 💙📚
