there was so much fear in the air after #MeToo started. those who were afraid lied about what scared them. hold their feet to the fire. they SHOULD be fucking scared.
Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.

This was incredibly difficult for me to write. It was digging into my own family history, but I hope I did the subject justice.

If there are any of my articles for UnseenJapan I’d like you to read, it’s this one
After World War II, some US-based organizations found a...unique way to fight the Cold War, using Japan as a proxy. Here's the story of how "war brides" and mixed-race children became weapons to ward off Communism.

Anyone who only, watches one genre or one type of media is doing themself a huge disservice.

Not to say you have to like *everything*, but it's worth exploring other mediums or other kinds of stories.

Translators of Bluesky, this is a cry for help: I'm a J-E translator who's considering setting up as a freelancer. Where do I even begin? What should my rates be? Are there any good resources for people in my position? Any input at all would be helpful. Thank you!

Reminds me of a mobile game event I was proofreading, and the translator didn't know that コンコン was the sound a fox makes. (Character speaking was a human-fox hybrid)

I forget what they did, but I caught the error because Kamen Rider Geats was airing and the SNS account often signed off with コンコン.

On one hand, I'm snacking less recently which is probably better for my health and not-insignificantly better on my finances.

On another, my sweet tooth is becoming increasingly demanding. 🤷‍♂️

I wrote more words about how it feels to be a translator watching the games press report on AI and labor, coming from a field that's fought these battles for decades. It may look like I'm beating up on one outlet, but it's not about them; I've been trying to write this for me and my peers all year.
You Can't Report on Hunger While Taking Bread Off the Table

the idea that lots of gamedevs are secretly using ai is booster bullshit

what on earth would I use genAI tools for? Coming up with ideas? Writing? It’s shit at those

making 3D models? Coding stuff? It’s shit at that too

oh but it’s faster maybe? Did I mention it’s shit at things?

seems important

Case in point:
Back to back performances last weekend (culture festival on Saturday, cosplay event on Sunday) had me so tired I fell asleep without turning off the light on Sunday, and I've been perpetually tired because I can't just take a nap despite having no tasks at school. (1/2)
I'm very grateful to be part of a theatre company that does a lot of smaller side shows between its big productions because it means more opportunities to act during the year.

The current trade-off being that I sometimes have no weekend to rest between work weeks, so I need to be careful. 🙃

In very simple terms, in US English "middle class" seems to mean "ordinary" while it in British English it generally means "privileged".
Could someone explain to me what is meant when a British person refers to "the middle class" ? Like, in the US, as I hear it, it basically just means a person who makes a certain amount of money, not too far below and not wildly above the median. Seems like a complex concept when UK writers use it?
