In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi.
He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael.
At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk.
Wael died on Friday at age 30.
ICE caused his death.

No idea if this is the case here, but a city council member in my suburb said that our many vacant downtown storefronts were due to a tax law that allows landlords to write off losses from vacant properties, so if they don't get the rent they want, they can make more money by letting it sit empty.

I think about this a lot. I’m 60 years old, part of the last Cold War generation. I grew up with the baseline assumption that the US was a force for Good in the world, vs the Soviets and their allies, who were Evil. It was reflected in pop culture, political rhetoric, even consumer marketing.
Americans clearly don’t understand that this line of argument is entirely lost for at least a generation. Talk about the US as representing “democracy” or “the free world” will be met with scorn everywhere. The world has converged to Latin America in that regard.
