My French onion soup: caramelize onions low/slow in lots of butter w/ a little salt & a bit of sugar. Throw them in crock pot w/ broth for the rest of the day. Go to the local patisserie & get some fresh French bread. Toast. Sprinkle cheese in a bowl. Top with soup. Float a slice of toasted bread.

Well...just caramelize them in a pan for half an hour and then throw them into a slow cooker for 8 more hours stir every half an hour once In slow cooker (plus all the other seasonings, broth etc)
