Georgia forcing the family of a brain dead Black woman to pay for her to remain on life support so the state can gestate her fetus is why we need pro-birth accountability laws that force a state to pay for all costs attending a forced birth. www.11alive.com/article/news...
Family says woman declared brain dead but her pregnancy continues under state law
Adriana Smith's been on life support 90+ days with weeks to go in her pregnancy. Her family questions Georgia’s heartbeat law — and why they had no say in her care.

Superb and important article, pointing out that politically the best way to save biomedical research is to get communities around different diseases informed of the problem, and set them loose on their congresspeople. Right now they just don't know what's going on. How to make this happen?

If we have to be stuck in this nightmare where people are forced to give birth against their wishes, then the government absolutely should cover the costs of prenatal care, lost compensation, and raising a child.
Instead of introducing pointless "every sperm is sacred legislation," introduce a bill—a Pro-Birth Accountability Act—like Sen. Mia McLeod introduced in S. Carolina in 2019.

I call it a "F**k You, Pay Me" bill.

If states are going to force people to give birth, then states should pay for it.

@housegop.bsky.social Why have y'all not signed the discharge petition? It cuts aren't being made to SS, Medicaid, SNAP and all programs we have asked to not be cut, then show us right now. Get it done.
Rep. Sarah McBride is already a legend—and she’s not here to play.

She was the 2nd House Dem to sign the discharge petition today to force a vote on the Hands Off Medicaid & SNAP Act.

If GOP reps swear they’re not gutting care, they can prove it. Or shut up.
