"The HHS document says that another paper it cites found 'an increase in placental blood clotting in pregnant mothers who took the vaccine.'

But the paper doesn't contain any reference to placental blood clots or to pregnant women."

RFK Jr. sent Congress 'medical disinformation' to defend COVID vaccine schedule change
A document circulated to members of Congress misinterprets studies and cites debunked research, scientists say. It could influence congressional perceptions of vaccine safety.

When they said they wanted to "restor[e] gold standard science," what they really meant was--we want to eliminate any science that doesn't support what *we* want people to believe.
This is not science. It is my opinion that the following will happen: 1. Geier and RFK Jr. are going to manipulate data, if not outright manufacture it, to convince the world that they were “right”. 2. They will present this to the nation. 3. They will not allow anyone to see or verify the dataset.

The thing about scientific research is that it’s one of the few national investments that’s a clear public good even if you entirely discount the actual ostensible point of it.
New report shows that NIH grants fueled $95 billion in economic activity and 407,782 jobs in 2024.

That's not to mention the countless lives that biomedical research has saved.

Show me a better investment than that.

Yes. It’s so toxic that lying - in a fantastical and easily disprovable way - carries no moral opprobrium. When did this become ok?

It’s one of the reasons we’re so exhausted.

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

One thing that's been very revealing is how many politicians valorized working-class and middle-class workers, unless those folks work for the federal government. The cheering of the purging of regular people who have had their entire financial lives upended has been something to see.

Allowing the administration to define broad swaths of history, programming and civil rights compliance as “DEI” and then regurgitating that language instead of clearly articulating what specifically is being targeted is spreading disinformation and propaganda.

If only OH Senators, Moreno and Husted, cared about science and their constituents’ health. This is such a shameful day and a terrifying decision with serious ramifications for public health, rigorous scientific research, and medical practice in America. Shame on all who confirmed this walking COI.
I want to thank AZ Senators @gallego.senate.gov and Mark Kelly for refusing to vote for RFK Jr. for HHS Secretary. It is important to stand against pseudoscience and misinformation.

Somebody needs to channel Audre Lorde and explain to the institutional leaders of higher education that their silence will not protect us. We need to be 10 toes down and LOUD about celebrating and explaining the value of education, the importance of free inquiry, the life saving impact of research..

🧵 If you’re applauding the abolishment of the Department of Education, you need to do a little research. You have ZERO clue what the DOE actually does.

Here’s a reality check on what the Department of Education actually does:

Executive wants to frame the NIH indirects cut as $4B in savings.

But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.
Direct Economic Contributions
NIH directly supports the economy through investments in research institutions and job formation.

Pete Hegseth isn’t DEI. Daniel Penny isn’t DEI. That’s not what DEI is.

They’re just grossly unqualified for their jobs and add no value that any replacement legacy job applicant wouldn’t bring.

So stop saying “it’s DEI” like it’s a clever commentary on the situation. It’s not.

“What is a country? The way its people govern themselves. Sometimes self-government just means elections. And sometimes it means recognizing the deeper dignity and meaning of what it means to be a people. That means speaking up, standing out, and protesting. We can only be free together.”
If you voted Republican, and you care about your country, please act rather than rationalize. Unless you cast your ballot so that South African oligarchs could steal your data, money, country, and future, tell your elected officials that you wanted something else.
