It is eh! He looks quite jolly! Not sure if the girl is Beulah, who was a step-granddaughter who I just did a write-up about.
@cbgenealogy.ie I’ve been involved in helping some of our newer members this year at the local library. This week they’ve shared something they’ve found, plus a brick wall. Irish research was the most common brick wall!

This reminds me of the day I realised the person buried next to my 3xgrtgrm in Perth, Scotland was her sister.
So true!

Keep pulling that string and connecting those dots.

Who was that woman who paid for the cemetery plot? And the dots keep connecting.
File under collateral research...

I am constantly reminded that, often times, people are MUCH closer in real life than a family tree might otherwise indicate.

So, research those siblings and inlaws like crazy. Never assume some person is too far afield - you just never know.

FAN!

Another email from Mercury. Another price rise in January. Remind me again how much profit they made?

When I put on my proof-reading hat for the genealogy newsletter I edit, I do suddenly notice errors- five so far and I am up to page 4. Until then my eye glides over such things, even though I am aware something is not quite right. pursed/pursued, where/were etc

Only once in the previous Solar Cycle (some 13 years ago) did I capture the #Aurora in the due east sky off the Otago coast. but certainly not with dusk still glowing in the south (right) and certainly not this colourful.

ruh-roh, 'you can't park there sir', the Aurora building it's outer edges is NOT meant to be happening in the ENE sky - absolutely no point taking a timelapse, this thing is too big.

So I go to bed glad I managed to have a gastroscopy today without sedation. But the start with the anaesthetic spray freaked me out a bit and I fear I might have a nightmare.

After finding family in the vital records and censuses, consult the Statistical Accounts of Scotland at stataccscot.ed.ac.uk/static/stata... written in the 1790s and 1830s/1840s.

They detail the religious persuasions of the parish, landowners, history & much more. Context is everything! #genealogy

Has the rest of the country had pink clouds in the sky this evening? Or is it just Palmy where we had smoke from the Fitz fire?

Sprouting strongly near the City Library. Palmy.

Dunedin is bigger than Whangarei but its hospital had to be shrunk when it blew out by a billion. Same with our ferries. A road to Whangarei nearly doubles in price from 10 to $18b but that's OK. Why are roads costlier & preferable to hospitals? Bizarre.

Here's a lush video of our local pūtangitangi/ Paradise duck parents and their seven little guys and gals. They always do this routine where they stand on the side like parents at Glenfield pool. Today I was trusted enough to sit on the side with them! 🥹🇳🇿🪶
These two haven't lost a single duckling.

I woke up this morning glad it was quiet, no wind. Except it's still 17km/h, with 33km/h gust in last ten minutes. But compared to what's been it seems calm. I have had enough of this wind!!!

We are deeply concerned about major cuts to funding for Māori news and current affairs programmes Te Karere and The Hui, by Te Māngai Pāhō.

This is terrible for Māori media, and sadly consistent with this Government’s continual undermining of Māori culture.

Ughhh Ancestry have clearly overloaded their own system with the new Origins. I can see my new areas- but Scotland has disappeared. I saw the Journeys once and it showed Fifeshire off northern England. But now I am back to only Munster/NZ as Journeys. How long until I get all the Journeys back?
