One of the loveliest parts of my day is waking up, logging on, and checking on the garment sewing feed to see what everyone has been making. It is super inspiring and fun. So I'm boosting the garment sewing feed again (uses #garmentsewing). I don't think you have to sew to appreciate it!
Here's this morning's duck adventure featuring meeping AND swooping. Bless their hearts. When the third took off and went flap-flap-fly she was absolutely shocked 😂 I wish I'd caught her wobbly flying but I think you can hear her surprised meep as she goes past #nzbirds

Here's the pūtangitangi whānau yesterday, getting around much more separately with half the team on pond and half in the rose garden. #nzbirds
They're appreciators of ornamentals 😂

Here's the State of the Duck Nation. We just popped back to the park this afternoon because this morning at our regular walk time, we went past our pūtangitangi on the side of SH1 😧 Not sure if they were in their way out or back in but I wanted to check and make sure they made it home safe. #nzbirds

Get a load of this sweet little tauhou fledgling. Eddie rescued him onto our umbrella and popped him up on top of the buxus to his parents after he fruitlessly had a go flying to the top and only made it halfway. The parents were pleased to receive him. Bless!! #nzbirds

Pūtangitangi! I have another entirely chaos video to post of a pack of pīwakawaka too. We've had a black one in the park for years, famous among local birders. Today we saw a black adult with a black fledgling! At the other end of the park, so maybe a generation or two below the OG #nzbirds

I can't recall which tree I found this one under but it was a heck of a mess. Organised chaos. I wondered about sparrows, as those nests I've viewed from below have been big noodly messy masses #nzbirds

I think these little beauties are both wax eye/ tauhou nests. But if anybody knows better let me know please 🙏🏻 #nzbirds
How lush though! Lined with wool 🥹🐥

I have some #nzbirds nest pictures after a few windy nights. I am most intrigued if anybody is able to identify any of them.
Here's nest 1. Found under a stand of cypresses.

Okay I actually caught more of this little pīwakawaka whānau than I thought! Both the black adult and black fledgling are in this, along with at least one regular pied adult and I think one pied fledgling too. But you'll want to watch closely!! #nzbirds

Gonna sew a cheeky flipping the bird tag into my PJ top 👀 #garmentsewing

Couple more park photos from yesterday and today 🌱🇳🇿 #nzbirds

Who's got 0 thumbs and lots of audacity and managed to get herself piteously trapped in the laundry hamper? And had to be bodily hauled out by me?

My cup very recently runneth over with beautiful vintage Singers. First I got this Featherweight, then I picked up a beloved 99k with reverse the other day. Both came with buttonholers and damn. This will be my new go to buttonhole. #vintagesewingmachine

Our pūtangitangi whānau this morning were just monching away in the duck feeding area, monopolizing all that good duck grain.
Good ducks nice ducks. They must be recharging after yesterday's flying mission! Very lazy today. #nzbirds

Here's a tale of six pūtangitangi [shel]duckies coming in to land very proudly.
My favourite part is when I call out to one of the daughters "did you guys go for a fly" and she calls back, presumably saying "hell YEAH we did" #nzbirds
They were very tired, must have had a bit of a journey.

I have: a video of the pūtangitangi whānau coming in to land! Shall post when I get home. In the meantime enjoy:
- carpark māmā mallard with only FOUR today (lots of strong wind last night maybe a factor in the disappearance)
- this lovely stone portal that I always must take a photo of

Mallard (?) babies ahoy! There's only 5 now though 🦆🤔
We put a few minutes into fruitlessly herding them out of the carpark. They kept going over there to sit down in apparently the most appealing puddle. Danger puddle. These guys are so bold it's a bit alarming. Growing quick though! #nzbirds

Here are our pūtangitangi this morning. Dad was AWOL at first but flew in past us as we walked on. #nzbirds
I have a cute mallard video too ...

Anybody an NZ pond duck ID expert? (Because I'm only an enthusiast lol.)
This duck with the brown head is a hell of a bully. Not sure if it's maybe a regular mallard drake but in moult, or if it's a different type? It grabs other ducks (all female) by the neck and zips them away over the pond 😦😦😦🦆

Okay I have made a new #garmentsewing thing which is really only half a project because I'll make a shirt next! These are #thefabricstoresparrowpants and they're intended as pyjamas but honestly I could wear these out to dinner. The fabric is surprisingly lush, a $5/m rayon god knows what

Here are this morning's duck antics. As we left, mama pūtangitangi was entertaining tourists with her highly territorial zoomies.
Bonus: a glimpse of Goldie Duck!! She's looking just stunning. #nzbirds

And here are our little mallard family who were trooping about in the carpark yesterday morning. She started with 7 on New Year's Day. She's still got 6 so she's not doing toooo badly considering she lets them play in the traffic 🙄🙃🦆 #nzbirds

Here are our little (not so little now) pūtangitangi fledglings. Right before this, I might actually have a photo, one of the daughters glided up behind a mallard and gave a gentle hiss 😂😂😂😂😈🦆 the mallard jumped out of her skin #nzbirds
I think they do want to be mates but lack social skills
