Manawatu inhabitant- Taranaki born. Family historian. Enjoyer of the outdoors but perfunctory gardener. Retired teacher. Volunteer. Ancienne pèlerine. Badge of honour: "She's a difficult socialist I guess."
My friends sold their gite and headed back to Ireland, but this is the side of it closest to the Railway station. It looks fancier on the 'back' door side on the other street.

I love my Palmy library so much. The other day I found a pile of photos/negatives from a 1992 Reunion that other cousins are interested in seeing. At the library today I was shown how to scan the negatives. So happy with the quality of the images. This is a leftover pipe from sluicing for gold.

I have had an interesting time following the life of my 2X-grt-uncle Joseph Beneda Scettrini. In 1928 I found him in Pikomanu. Where's that you ask? Turns out it was a settlement for building a railway link on the West Coast. You can go on a short walk from Kawatiri now through a tunnel they built.

Took an early walk along He Ara Kotahi while the rain’s away. Not surprised to see Manawatu River running fast and quite full. New pou beside the pedestrian/cycling bridge.

@cbgenealogy.ie I have heard you talking about people not knowing their birthday. This is my great-uncle, in the Irish registration website as being born 1877.

Also stumbled on this bit of a farming ad for Martin. Time I did a timeline for him now it seems like the chn enrolled in Halkett School. This would have been 1892.
