The sex/gender distinction, the focus on "normal" queers, "born this way" politics... We knew where all of those would end up, and every time we tried to argue that case we got shouted down. I don't blame queer people for this outcome, but I find it frustrating we didn't do better for ourselves.

After decades of hearing that I should favor "pragmatic politics that change minds now" over more complex solutions, I wish I could muster more than an exasperated sigh every time I see another predicted consequence of cis-het appeasement politics.
It's hard to determine whether the blame lies more with trans advocacy abandoning any and all radicalism while trying to find a palatable message for a cissexist society married to sex-essentialism, or with cis people's inherent discomfort with sex being mutable.
