Is there anyone here who is covid conscious, adds alt text, and supports queer/trans/poc/neurodivergent/disabled people in general? I'd like to have community again, but I need a community that includes me, a chronically ill person, in their list of people who matter. 🧵

Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

Is there any covid safe dentist or oral surgeon in the Miami or South Florida area? (staff wearing n95 or equivalent, air filters)

Like, just be honest with me. Look me in the immunocompromised eye and say "I could take a small measure to help keep you safe from a disabling oncogenic disease, one that's been proven to reduce transmission, but I don't WANT to."

I Google searched "iguana colorful" and got a bunch of AI images, so then I searched "real iguana colorful" and got an AI result telling me that iguanas can be colorful. I hate that the internet is like this now, I just want actual real search results 😭

please mask and wash your hands and test if you don’t feel well. so many people are getting sick and getting others sick. stay home if you’re sick. exposing countless workers to illness so you can get your holiday shopping done or whatever is gross.

I find it hilarious that one pattern cuttlefish like to do is a big white square on their mantle.

They are great at doing patterns to blend in with their enviroment but sometimes they just think "time for ■"

Ice cold take, probably? I don't think YouTube ads should be allowed to be over, idk, two minutes long. I don't care if there's a skip button. They should still be two minutes maximum.

not to mention the number of times I didn't understand what I was looking at (what tv character that was, whether there's a cat in this photo, whether it's the plant I'm supposed to be focusing on or something else, what meme this is, etc) that alt text has cleared up for me so I haven't had to ask
I also talk about "people who need alt text" and I think that's appropriate to do but I also think folks should realize they could also be people who need alt text if the image doesn't load or gets corrupted or whatever.

It's not a Memento Disability thing.

Alt text is also for you. Now.

All I can think now is, if this person they've taken in already has chronic pain, and he's being held somewhere or gets prison, the gov isn't going to care. He'll get even less help for the pain. And that's not ok.
As someone who has also had a spinal fusion operation (mine was cervical) and years of horrific pain, I think the x-ray photo on his profile is far more important in understanding the shooter's motivations for attacking a health insurance CEO than any retweeting activity or Goodreads reviews.
the person of interest in the shooting of the United CEO has been ID’d as Luigi Mangione, an Ivy League grad and fan of Breloom, the mushroom Pokémon.

So often I see / hear about people filming videos, recording podcasts, making art, doing crafts, cooking meals, doing their makeup, working out, etc. while they're sick.

I feel worse than that on a daily basis. Even not sick, I can't work out, cook meals, do crafts, talk for more than 2 minutes. 1/

I now have a free trial of Google Play Pass, and there are a couple games I already wanted, but my inner 10-year-old possessed me and I downloaded and immediately started playing a game called "Gymnastics Superstar Star Girl" 😄 I have no idea what's happening, but at least I have a cool leotard.

I just subscribed to a streaming service because of a great Black Friday deal, and instead of using that subscription, I'm watching dogs have spa treatments on YouTube.

I'm trying to put together a recommendation post, and I've had to exclude three books now that sounded like they might be good because of their AI art covers 😫

This Thanksgiving - be thankful for your good health (if you have it) and spare a thought for the disabled & chronically ill people who’ve been tossed aside for years so that everyone else can go “back to normal”.

This “othering” of people - this desire to see them as less than - has consequences
How Did We Get Here and What Comes Next?
Disabled people have been warning others for nearly 5 years that eugenicist Covid policies would lead to a rise of fascist, racist, bigoted, misogynistic hatred. It's here now. So what’s next?

We can tell them until we’re blue in the face - they will almost always refuse to acknowledge it. They will find some way we are at fault. Some perceived moral failing that renders us incapable of getting the magical help they’re certain will be there for them when it’s their turn. /3

Self-published authors, heads up. If "HarperCollins" contacts you out of the blue and they want to offer you a deal but you have to write a query first: it's a scam. I've seen multiple authors get taken in by this one recently.
