It's wild that the new zealand govt sees what's going on in the states and rather than going "wow we have a huge opportunity to recruit foreign talent, let's invest" (like aus, canada, EU etc have done) instead they're like "ooh cutting science to the bone, cool idea bro" #nzpol

yesterday on RNZ I talked with Kathryn Ryan about cuts to NZ science funding and the risk of losing talent www.rnz.co.nz/national/pro...

here's some correspondence about the opposite problem: kiwi scientists who want to return home to work, but can't, given the bleak funding environment

Government saying councils aren't focusing on core infrastructure. The truth shows a different picture though. Sounds like the tactics of misinformation are being used here.

Let me be blunt - privatisation kills. Lancet confirms it increases deaths, patient care inevitably declines, private investors profit, & is increasingly expensive.

I've been writing about this topic for over a year now but there is literally too much "s***" being thrown at us.

ACT's Regulatory Standards Bill is a dangerous attack on nature and Te Tiriti. It aims to lock ACT’s far-right principles into law, ensuring corporate property and profits trump the public good, environmental protection and our founding document.

Have your say now.

I hate headlines like "Budget 2025: Winners and Losers" because it makes it sound balanced when it fact it's:

Winners: Small group of rich pricks
Losers: Rest of New Zealand, but especially women and the poors

A change from the budget: 18 and 19 year olds applying for the unemployment benefit are going to have their parents incoming taken into account, many will then be ineligible.

With unemployment expected to stay above 5%, parents will now be expected to support adult children who can't find work

This should be a chilling statement from the PM, and lead to widespread condemnation from our media. Instead Hosking cheers it on, repeatedly calling it "the Māorification of the country" and my bet is no one will say a thing. Pure, unfiltered racism from our biggest media org.

Please consider who benefits from you becoming complacent, doing less critical thinking, less fact checking. Who benefits from devaluing yours and other people‘s labor. From your data.
TL;DR: AI is so much dumber than you think, aka it is not actually „intelligent“ at all, it can‘t remotely do what most people seem to think it already can, it‘s just good at faking human „thinking“. There is no ghost in the machine. Please stop falling for the grift.

America planned to occupy Gaza even before Trump. That’s why the US built a port in Gaza during the genocide and is constructing the world’s second-largest embassy in Beirut—an imperial outpost. Through Israel, America has always pursued colonial aims in the Middle East.

If you don't want to live in NZ for more than a week each year you don't need residency and the right to buy property. You need a tourist visa and hotel booking.

This will be Citizen Thiel corruption all over again. Hope our fine media keep a close eye on political donations.
