It was an exciting time to live in Kalispell Montana when Cimino decided to shoot Heaven's Gate in that town of 10,000. Now Bruce Robinson reflects, one of the main coordinators for extras on the film and brother to Terry Robinson of The Mission Mountain Wood Band, joining after fatal plane crash:
The Deer Hunter's Last Stand, Or, How a Movie Filmed in Montana Almost Destroyed Hollywood
Much of the failure of Heaven's Gate can probably be attributed to the fact that long before anyone even saw the film, it had become notorious as an example of overspending. By the time it made its fi...

Hitchcock challenged the Hollywood given - the fixed knowable character.
- For him, they could be removed even from 'themselves'.
I think Hitchcock considered “Shadow Of A Doubt” his favorite, also. I think there was a dichotomy within Charles - he genuinely cared about his family, especially his niece, Little Charlie. But that other side of him became more dominant to keep his secrets, no matter who had to be harmed.

One of my favorite movies, 'Broadcast News,' was released on this day in 1987. For @Slate.com I wrote about its deleted scenes, which show how easily a great film could've gone sideways:
Broadcast News Is Nearly Perfect, but Its Deleted Scenes Reveal How Close It Came to Disaster
The classic rom-com’s little-seen alternate ending shows how thin the line is between masterpiece and misfire.

🎬 Yes. The hierarchies of power that he reveals in gangster land is here so much more subtle and delicate.
But just as ruthless when it comes to protecting the status quo from outsiders. #Scorsese

Not only was Heaven's Gate (Cimino, 1980) good, actually, but Michael Cimino was unfairly maligned for it.

5- New York, New York (Martin Scorsese, 1977)

Una de las rarezas, minusvalorada en su momento, de Sorsese, y que mejora con los años. Precioso homenaje al género musical en el que De Niro contó con la mejor aliada posible: Liza Minnelli.

One that nobody ever talks about, but I adore, is At Long Last Love.

Bogdanovich at the height of his power trying to make a live recorded musical with stars who couldn’t sing at a time musicals were totally out of fashion, but…

Once you forget all that it’s just an extremely cute, goofy comedy.
A quick question for anybody who wants to answer, just because I'm trying to get my creative juices flowing...

What's your favorite movie or movies that was a box office flop? I'm not talking about like "Man of Steel made $700 million rather than $1 billion," I'm talking about movies that bombed.

Getting to see the 4K remaster of this Coppola curio on Valentine’s Day at The PCC and couldn’t be more excited.

Despite this film not entirely working and literally bankrupting Coppola, which he’d spend near on 15 years working off it has a special place in my heart.

The nasty spider in his web...
Ah yes, glowing glass of milk- effect by placing a light bulb inside glass, transforms a symbol of innocence as sinister, to build suspense. Suggesting he’s trying to poison her. As we discussed in my Hitchcock class, ascending stairs in a Hitchcock film always signals danger. #Suspicion #TCMParty
