As Aotearoa New Zealand gears up for its second COVID inquiry, it’s crucial everyone watches this clip. Yes, it was tough having closed borders & strict lockdowns, but I’m not sure if people fully understand the scale of devastation we avoided by acting as we did. Listen to this doctor explain.
Prof Kevin Fong giving the most devastating and moving testimony to the Covid Inquiry of visiting hospital intensive care units at the height of the second wave in late Dec 2020.

The unimaginable scale of death, the trauma, the loss of hope. Please watch this 2min clip.

New Zealand is high risk from disinfo campaigns like the one coming at us.

Community organising, strong social norms around truth, and assertive calling out of bullshit are important tools we should also use.
Luxon has ruled out supporting Act's treaty bill beyond select committee.

Seymour is banking on changing public opinion between now and then because he knows Luxon will happily flip flop if it looks popular. He'll go hard on this; so will the Atlas mob and other racist astroturfs.

Don't let up.

No word of a lie from Willie Jackson here. Seymour's position IS inconsistent with 40 years of bipartisan consensus. It IS an attack on the independent judiciary. It IS a position Jim Bolger & Doug Graham would be ashamed of. It IS a sop to a small far right fringe.

Read this thread about how micro targeting of political comms is ready to go in Aotearoa

Then look at the proposed Treaty principles changes

Then watch the documentary about the Voice referendum again

We’re heading for a messy, messy fight
New Zealanders are looking at hoovering of data through widely used, undisclosed ad tech, available commercially, & already used in unprecedented manner to target pol. campaigns in 2023 general election. All this will evolve at pace. The key question is: Are country's institutions fit for purpose?

Fear of a 15 minute city
Climate sceptism, anti-communism and opposition to the UN are fuelling conspiracy theories about the 'real' purpose of more sustainable cities.

Scientists explain why the record-shattering 2023 heat has them on edge. Warming may be worsening
The latest calculations from several science agencies showing Earth obliterated global heat records last year may seem scary. But scientists worry that what's behind those numbers could be even worse.

2023 marks the first time on record that every day within a year has exceeded 1°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial level.

The first days above 1ºC were way back in the early 1990s. First days above 1.5ºC were back in the strong El Niño events of 2016 and 2020.

Also this shit. That is NOT expensive. It is braindead simple to point out that spend is likely to save a far greater cost to the health system without that spend. It is fiscally irresponsible to consider removing it.
