don't worry, john roberts says this is a legitimate exercise of presidential power and if we did anything to curb it, we would be robbing the executive of the energy he needs to do his job
Trump rages that Henry Cuellar didn’t pay him back for a pardon by switching parties, blasting Cuellar for a “lack of LOYALTY.”

In other words, Trump admits he was trying to use his pardon power to buy Republicans a House seat.

My annual Christmas trivia: Frank Capra was a Caltech graduate and lifelong science guy who told a biographer that had he not gone into film, he might have wanted to be an astronomer. When Capra was Academy president in 1937, he invited Edwin and Grace Hubble to be special guests at the Oscars.

Today in terrifyingly chilling news…
This quote continues to rattle me to my core:

"So what you’re telling us is you need less evidence to kill somebody than you do to hold them."

That's Rep Adam Smith to Pentagon officials in a briefing on Trump's illegal boat bombings. As he told me in this piece, they didn't answer his objection:
Awful: Pentagon officials told lawmakers Trump now claims authority to bomb people merely “affiliated” with “narco-terrorist" groups, Rep Adam Smith tells me. But under questioning, they wouldn't say what “affiliated” even means!

Lots of fresh info in my new piece:

The Fugitive Slave Act legalized bounty hunting.

It’s crystal clear what Make America Great Again really means.
“Under the plan, bounty hunters may receive “monetary bonuses” depending on how successfully they track down their targets — and how many immigrants they then report to ICE.”

Or ICE could just fund the Klan directly.
ICE Plans Cash Rewards for Private Bounty Hunters to Locate and Track Immigrants
Companies hired by ICE would be given bundles of information on 10,000 immigrants at a time to locate — and paid cash bonuses for performance.

At the behest of corporate lobbyists, Trump's CFPB will block states from erasing medical debt from credit reports.

This comes as the GOP allows ACA subsidies to expire – which could cause millions to go uninsured and medical debt to skyrocket.

I feel cursed living through the innovation drought. Everything today feels designed to exploit the connected.
