The last few mornings of early commutes have been great to see an empty Downtown Frederick, MD ready for the holidays

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

A game show host and a morning show host telling military brass to toss the rules and become killing machines.

Schoolhouse Rock didn't prepare me for this nonsense.

A quick review of the DOE's new 'critical review' of climate science. Whether it's worth a formal community response - I'm still not sure, but here's my first thoughts

I can't imagine there will be any problems with this summary of climate science

Been playing with this weather app for a while this evening and I like it a lot. The interface is clean and intuitive, with easy access to NWS products (until DOGE dismantles NOAA, at least).
Putting a plug out there for an incredible weather app (EverythingWx) that was developed by Cory Mottice (Warning Coordination Meteorologist at NWS Corpus Christi)

It’s ad free, pulls information directly from the National Weather Service, and has a beautiful design!

“Why do I need NOAA? I’ve got a weather app.”

Is equivalent to asking

“Why do I need farms? I can go to the supermarket.”

The problem is that the federal government actually runs so silent and efficient that almost nobody realizes its there.

The hardware, software and electricity and maintenance to keep the RADARs spinning and data free to all is step one in why YouTubers can even do their thing

I have to wonder if the people in northern Louisiana are upset that they live too far north to see the snow.
