I'm too tired to have the words to articulate my response to the analysts of the Shakespeare sculpture in this thing about "is this painting Wm. Shakes?"

people didn't expect exact likenesses back then 😭 (the art historian does
get around to it!)

now they're discussing the engraving from 1623

the good news is when i got up a little bit ago, my legs had remembered how to do their job.

the bad news is that once again, the only food in the kitchen that feels worth the effort is onion soup.

i did a sunbutter sandwich but the crust is hard on the loaf and yuck bad texture :(

This is awful! News Weekend is only half an hour long and usually features #NiceTime stories as well as anything major that broke that day.

Also the update for west coast NewsHour was one of the things I thought was extremely cool :(
PBS NEWS WEEKEND has been cancelled and 34 jobs will be cut at WETA in Washington D.C.

The NEWS HOUR West Coast bureau will also close and the updated daily West Coast broadcast will end.

“We cannot fully compensate for the scope of the federal funding loss.”

WETA to cut staff, cancel ‘PBS News Weekend’ and close News Hour West bureau
The restructuring includes the elimination of 34 positions, following another round of cuts made in September.

those of us laid off from Teen Vogue were really fortunate to complete our fundraising goal — the laid-off staffers at VIBE deserve the same support, as Black media outlets and journalists continue to be targeted and discriminated against in “austerity” measures
It was announced on October 16, 2025 that VIBE was "joining forces" with Rolling Stone. As a result, the majority of VIBE employees were laid off. If you have the means to give, this team could use the support! www.gofundme.com/f/support-vi...

this is really very good, if you're in the market for spine-chilling Gothic set in 17th century England (and that time/place is vital to the plot!)
I had some fun reimagining my novel The Feast of the Innocents as a 70s British horror movie poster! Just a quick reminder if you haven’t read it yet: it *is* a Christmas horror novel 😉

If women are underrepresented in STEM, it's at least partly because men like this offer mentoring, then embarrass themselves by assuming their mentees must be into them, then decide the best solution is to cut ties, which sends the signal to other faculty that the mentee must not be good enough.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

lololol i was feeling so good today, got a 5 on my Visible check-in this morning... then got up from my nap just now for food and my legs were like "we were born yesterday :D"

where did that come from, legs, why.

(i didn't fall, exactly, just plopped back on the bed, then 2 steps to my wheelchair)

This is a legitimately good idea. Studies show that heavy metal fans tend to be the least angry people. Presumably because their brains experience anger a lot, but in safe, controlled, voluntary ways, so they have a lot more practice dealing with it, but fewer upsetting incidents that triggered it.
November 15, 2025 at 6:07 PM
this is from a thread about anger and metal

but i love the "if you don't feel, you can't deal"

it's why i believe strongly that we all need a good cry sometimes. plus it can help regulate or reset certain hormones linked to stress and frustration.
Exactly. The parts of your brain that process emotional issues are the same parts that produce the emotion, so you need to experience it to get to grips with it, hence bottling up is really bad for wellbeing, long term

Basically, when it comes to emotional issues, if you don't feel, you can't deal

So sad to hear that Alice Wong has died. Her work has informed my understanding of disability and disability advocacy for as long as I can remember, and we just listened to her on this episode of Radiolab a few weeks ago: www.wnycstudios.org/story/voice/

Alice Wong. i could literally teach an entire semester of philosophy of technology & disability through a lens of just her. You should all go spend time with her work. Her essays, podcasts, TV appearances, books, all of it; it is all so good.

Good night Alice. Rest in power, pending justice & peace

I'm so, so sorry to hear Alice Wong (@sfdirewolf.bsky.social) has passed. She was a wonderful person, a revelatory speaker, and very kind to me personally. The disability community and all her friends will miss her deeply.

May her memory be a blessing.

Alice Wong was one of the most effective people challenging the Whiteness of disability communities and its many flaws, but who believed fiercely in us as a community, in disabled people as oracles.

Alice brought so much to so many of us, it’s hard to measure the kind of gratitude I have for that.

globally, indigenous people are left out of the conversation when it comes to OUR land. they treat us like WE'RE incompetent. lift indigenous voices WORLDWIDE.
This was Alessandra Korap Munduruku this morning. She lives in the Brazilian state where COP is taking place this year! She was not given a pass into the Blue Zone.

These are the voices you should be listening to, boosting, and celebrating. Not the politicians who are attending #COP30!
