Why did Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports say he's swearing off betting on the ponies?

In this commentary, Louis Guida explains why Thoroughbred racing finds itself between a rock and a hard place on this Breeders' Cup weekend.

Tracks win, fans lose: Algorithm-driven wagering on horse racing heads for a reckoning • Kentucky Lantern
Computer-assisted wagering has put horse racing between a rock and a hard place — its fan base vs. a big source of revenue for tracks.

Worked the sales in Oz when Snitzel’s was just a middling 3rd season sire. I remember hearing buyers say they loved him 'on the track' but weren’t convinced he’d cut it as a sire. Many passed, unaware they were looking at the progeny of a future super stallion. RIP Snitzel.
Snitzel, Australia's four-time champion stallion, sire of 23 group 1 winners and 160 stakes winners to date, was euthanized June 11 at age 22 owing to age-related issues, chiefly a deterioration in the liver.

What a wild story. Is the Curragh public grounds? Even so, why can't management tell the people to leave? This makes no sense.
A large group of the traveling community has set up a campsite on the Curragh, forcing a major gallop to be closed, and group 1-winning trainer Willie McCreery has said it is only a matter of time before one of his staff is injured.

Journalism is not only the Kentucky Derby favorite, he is a modern symbol of resilience, chased from his home by wildfires, only to return, undeterred and unbothered. The name ain't bad, either. My story from Southern California.
