In the case of 99% of white Americans' ancestors, they left wherever they were from because they were poor dirt farmers and hoped America would suck marginally less. Don't get too high on the hog about the whole thing.
i really don't know the answer to this but what percentage of white americans like me have absolutely no idea where our ancestors were living more than a few generations back because most people in the family have not cared that much

You see less extreme versions of this all the time. A couple gets in an argument and the man takes off with the car stranding her. He got mad she couldn't finish so he ditched her and made a faint attempt at calling rescue once he realized what he'd done.

This! Transphobia (besides just being wrong) is DEEPLY unpopular with the Dem base! You cannot argue we need to "moderate" by restricting trans rights when the median dem voter position on trans rights is "good and fine, leave them alone".
