There's a lot of big news today/this week, but Apple just dropped a nuke of a paper about LLMs & LRMs, specially around "high-complexity tasks where both models experience complete collapse." This is the biggest sign yet that if AI ever lives up the hype, it won't be via those approaches:
The Illusion of Thinking: Understanding the Strengths and Limitations of Reasoning Models via the Lens of Problem Complexity
Recent generations of frontier language models have introduced Large Reasoning Models (LRMs) that generate detailed thinking processes…

This is why we should never debate the worth of another person

We all have value just for being ourselves

It’s not tied to our job, or health status or our economic contribution

Saying that someone must prove they “matter” to get Medicaid is blatant eugenics

Disabled people aren’t expendable!
Dr. Oz Says People Will Receive Medicaid If They Can ‘Prove That They Matter’
He continues to defend Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” by claiming that there will be no Medicaid cuts.

One of the greatest deceptions of our time is the false narrative that we should be more concerned about a poor person misusing the welfare system or an immigrant being here illegally than we are about the ultra wealthy abusing the system and cruel people having unchecked power over all of us.

If you watch only one video today, let it be this one.

Watch NYU Stern School of Business Professor Scott Galloway’s outstanding commentary on what prosperity and wealth should mean in America.

His words could not be more on point and timely.

Please pass it on.

ok I feel completely insane asking this but like

weren't we NOT blowing up rockets, like, 50 years ago. weren't we successfully sending rockets up that did not rattle apart. also weren't we like "ah yeah that was a fail" when the rocket fell apart instead of calling it a "partial success"

The New York Times is giving a murder their “both-sides” treatment. What the hell is the matter with you?!? Someone kills a person with their car, and your reaction is to be like, “Some people think murder is bad, but others don’t like bike lanes, so 🤷‍♂️.”

My other popular opinion is that in-app purchases fucked mobile gaming.

Yes, there are exceptions; I know them. But the whole “our game gets unplayable after a point unless you buy coins” thing just means that games are no longer fun and developers aren’t trying to balance playability any longer.

The idea that CFPB is duplicative is horseshit. The reason it was created is that there is no other regulatory agency whose job it is to look out for consumers being ripped off by complex financial products. Thats why ppl like Musk having being trying to eliminate it since its creation.

I had to explain to a colleague out here why Wal-Mart failed in Europe - their business model was completely unworkable and in many ways illegal out here. Trying to compete fairly drove them out of business.

They're not pro technology so much as they're pro endless growth which is why they were hocking crypto and now AI that nobody wants.
One of the things I still don’t understand is how these tech bros can be pro-technology and anti science.
