No American president has ever named ships or institutions after himself—until now. Trump’s gold-plated presidency isn’t about strength. It’s about fear, ego, and unmistakable ignorance.

also, what determines whether you get 10 or 20 pics on your carousel?

look at how little effort it takes for someone on the conservative grievance circuit to destroy a life

millions of college kids have half assed an assignment at the last minute, you eat the F and move on

but the effort to push trans people out of public life will use whatever it can get
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

Yes! To my fellow Philadelphians.

These people should not have one moment of rest.
ICE agent recognized out Christmas shopping—throws tantrum when citizens profile him.

"We're trying to prevent you from kidnapping our neighbors," they say.

"I'm not doing anything but walking, leave me alone!" he yells.

"Not right now you're not—but the past 5 days you have."

This is John Roberts' America.
The blatant selling of pardons is perhaps the clearest instance of criminal conduct authorized by SCOTUS. Pardons are a quintessential "official act." So, even when Trump takes a bribe to issue one, he is presumably above the criminal law.
The president’s own chief of staff was reportedly stunned by his pardon of a former Honduran president.

it's crazy that 500 years ago, you would see the ruler of your country maybe once in your life and hear whispers that they're the Sun God, but now with social media, you get to see on a daily basis that they're the most unhinged, idiotic, and unhappy person you know

facebook *would be* for talking to ppl I know IRL but don't like, but I left that party a long time ago

texting is for talking to ppl I know IRL and do like

bsky is for talking to ppl I don't know IRL (and some that I do) but absolutely do like, or at least can have a lol with
low stakes posting today reminds me that 1) Facebook is for talking to people you know IRL but don’t like and 2) microblogging sites are for talking to people you don’t know but do like.

we forget these things at our peril

took my very low-mileage car into the dealer for service and they smartly asked if I wanted a trade-in appraisal (it's a 2023 that we bot in 2022)

value is high (<14k miles) and now I'm considering a new one

this is a very elegant way to upsell people, I am not immune!

Exam I once had was like, "the US has learned that Saddam Hussein has exactly 3 ICBMs pointed at Chicago and there is credible evidence that he is increasingly erratic and paranoid. Explain optimal strategic and tactical responses citing every single theoretical framework you learned this semester"
Does anyone else bristle at this framing? WSJ says blue books are “torturing” students with hand cramps, and “nobody likes them.”

Listen, students have been outsourcing everything to AI and cheating their way through college. Blue books should be celebrated as a return to authentic human learning.
They Were Every Student’s Worst Nightmare. Now Blue Books Are Back.
Cheating with ChatGPT has become a huge problem for colleges. The solution is painfully old-school.

Paper linked below. The grading criteria, given to students in advance, was based on whether the student demonstrated they read the article and if they provided a reaction to some aspect of it. The student made no effort to do either; they blathered about the Bible.
