AOC: Fox News and the right-wing would have you believe that these American values are something out of The Communist Manifesto. But let me tell you Fox News, I don’t believe in healthcare, labor, and human rights because I’m a Marxist.. I believe it because I was a waitress.

I strongly suspect this recent piece from Prof. David Knoll is about to be come extremely relevant and widely read.

"Even a rogue marshal’s service, in other words, is not an insurmountable obstacle to courts enforcing the rule of law. If courts have the courage, the legal tools are there."
If the Marshals Go Rogue, Courts Have Other Ways to Enforce their Orders
Opinion | Even a rogue marshal’s service is not an insurmountable obstacle to courts enforcing the rule of law.

If we continue down this path much farther, violent civil conflict of some form will not only be possible, but inevitable.

We are witnessing the greatest executive power grab in US history. I'm concerned that this democratic republic will be irrevocably altered for the worse.

Which is worse?

—deliberately ignoring a federal court order

—trying to comply but you fucked everything up so badly you literally can’t
reading the docs, this strikes me as less of a “daring the court to enforce its order” situation and more of a situation where a) the admin tried to read the tro narrowly and the court is here rejecting that, and b) the admin is genuinely having difficulty turning things back on quickly enough
BREAKING: A federal judge has determined that the Trump administration is violating his order lifting the blanket spending freeze on federal grant programs.

He is orderin gthe administration to immediately unfreeze funds, including for NIH and the IRA. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Stating the obvious: tariffs are a regressive tax on the poorest Americans.

A company pays the tariff, and raises their prices to get that money. That price is paid by the consumer.

Lately it seems like Trump and Musk are competing for most disturbing display of fascism and autocracy. Of course what they each is it's own scary combo of dangerous, immoral and illegal.

I'm starting to think that Youtube plus a number of alternative non-Meta/Musk social media platforms could be used to help create a larger more fact-oriented media. It may be the best hope in the modern pro-oligarch environment. Keep things regional/local early, expanding scope late.

The thing to understand about Trump is like in his first term, he doesn’t want to govern. He doesn’t want to learn. He wants to campaign and look good.

Republicans know this. So there are battles going on right now to take control of the actual process of governing.

Younger Gen X, cosigned. I try to make myself browse the web in equal or greater ratio to social media.
The millennial experience is growing up with the internet, and watching it go from a free, open, democratic, and eclectic ecosystem to a wasteland of five websites controlled by billionaires, and now seeing it quickly fill up with AI-generated slop.

I want our World Wide Web back.
