This is such an insane statistic that it's hard to understand. 40% of what is shipped is fossil fuels -- not 40% of things are shipped *by* fossil fuels. 40% of *what is being carried* is the fossil fuels themselves.
We ship 11 billion tonnes of stuff around the world and 40% of that is fossil fuels.

Counterpoint: they don’t need to be trained because they’re not there to enforce laws, they’re there to terrorize poor people of color. Really hate this framing considering how shitty local cops are on this stuff, too.
Vladeck: There’s one video showing a DEA officer telling a D.C. resident he couldn’t drink alcohol on his porch—D.C. law says exactly the opposite. It also highlights how these officers aren’t even trained in the laws they’re purportedly enforcing.

This goes to show, policing as it has existed has always been tyranny's foot in the door. If Democratic mayors could justify unaccountable, undemocratic, secretive state violence in some places, it's a much lower bar to justify it everywhere.
