In 2026 I want all of the decent people to remember one thing.

You aren’t meant to be this disciplined, this self-sacrificing to survive. The environment is supposed to support good living. We can have that. You are not a failure. That is politics.

That is all.

If you are making plans to buy, travel, or do anything else this holiday season in the same way as you have in previous years, you do not understand the assignment.

The holidays are the beating heart of American capitalism. It's how they get most of the money they get from us. This year, we say no.

More people voted in New York City’s election this year than they have in 50 years.

That’s a win for democracy, and a testament to @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social's inspiring campaign.

Congratulations to the next mayor of the greatest city in the world. 🗽

If/when we do see a rise in Black women politicians in the coming years, we really have to cover them bc few things unite our enemies, including from within 🙃, like an intelligent Black woman with a stage. And don’t let her be beautiful!
It’s an in-joke that when Black women get bored, we go get a degree & pivot. It’s a whole lotta Black women unemployed right now, watching Rep Jasmine & Kamala & now the Detroit mayor etc, and I don’t think *those people* understood what they’ve activated by forcing us to have time via layoffs

*whispers* you can continue to read me, the pundit who insisted the other pundits were wrong about these conclusions
basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

This story is worth a read, but it's so frustrating to see, since I know virtually everyone quoted in it (and the author) and ... there were *lots* of people warning of these coming dangers. Andreessen became a baby about his feelings long before taking offense to the slight from the Biden admin.

A snapshot of Silicon Valley in 2025 is Mark Zuckerberg, now a MAGA-friendly mixed martial arts fan who doesn’t worry much about hate speech on his platforms and complains that corporate America isn’t masculine enough.
I Thought I Knew Silicon Valley. I Was Wrong
Tech got what it wanted by electing Trump. A year later, it looks more like a suicide pact.

Months ago, I saw this screenshot of Dr McMillan Cottam's breakfast reading - the one page had me scurrying to get it on my library hold list.

"The Change" is about middle age women owning their power and taking out abusive men to avenge abused and murdered girls. Very satisfying, highly recommend.
Every time I open a page of this book it’s narrating this website.

Those without honor are almost always hypocrites, but do not think that exposing their hypocrisy will thwart them. Double standards are their weapons, wielded gleefully against those who attempt to maintain honor and fair play. Do not abandon your own principles, but know when your enemy has none.

“We are going to have to live here with each other,” Ezra Klein says. But the political movement that controls the Republican Party and the American government does not accept his notion of a “We” – their counter is: But what if we don’t, actually? Or at least not as equals.

The American Right fundamentally rejects the idea of a pluralistic, democratic society that does not award privilege to certain people based on race, gender, religion, and wealth. They reject the pluralization of culture, the public square, the institutions, and all spheres of American life.

“We are going to have to live here with each other” sounds good in a vacuum. But it reveals itself to be a remarkably naïve and/or disingenuous proposition as soon as we move from abstract notions of “our disagreements” to asking: What are we disagreeing over, exactly?

The key problem with what Ezra Klein says here is that he fails – or is unwilling – to grapple with the fundamental reality of the political conflict: The movement that dominates today’s Right fully rejects the very idea of “living here with each other” as equals. That’s their defining position.
"All I can say for me in the work I do is that I want to create a space that takes our disagreements seriously, that takes the stakes of them seriously, the consequences for people seriously, but does so without deepening our divisions irreparably. We are going to have to live here with each other"

It’s interesting to see a writer list “the worst things” a man has done, and it’s truly a list of horrors, and then blithely say that still, we must get along. You can only do that when you aren’t in anyone’s political crosshairs. Must be nice.

What else are you supposed to hear when someone says that very accomplished Black women lack the “brain processing power” to be taken seriously? Is that merely “inflammatory” or disagreeable, or something more?

Media position Spencer Cox as a voice of reason but he’s whitewashing illiberalism.
Spencer Cox: "Charlie said some very inflammatory things, and in some corners of the web that's all that people have heard"

non-celiac gluten sensitivity exists and estimates are like 3-8% prevalence in the united states

it can range from feeling mildly unwell to worst symptoms than most celiacs ever have (ataxia, seizures)

if someone says they feel bad eating gluten, they’re almost certainly correct
Gluten-free: A good example of a science-free trend created by pop culture & wellness industry.

Key for celiacs, etc. But NOT a "wellness hack."
