Federal workers and anyone affected should ask Senate Democrats what was the point of all the missed paychecks, and all the chaos with the airports and benefit checks if they're simply going to fold in the end. If the House doesn't pass those ACA extensions, once again the Dems played themselves.

You don't need to go to journalism school to be a journalist, but you should perhaps learn some best practices of journalism before playing a journalist on social media. Maybe if this fellow had Tom Rosenstiel as a professor, he would learn that journalism is a discipline of verification. #Cowboys

It's always interesting to see how so many people who present themselves as believing in racial equality and inclusion so quickly fall in line with racist beliefs when experiencing the mildest social pressure to do so. #Vivek

Cuomo been pinned twice. Time to stop pushing him. He's never getting over again. #wrestling
Zohran Mamdani will be New York’s youngest mayor in over a century and the city’s first Muslim and first South Asian mayor. He has twice defeated Andrew Cuomo, who resigned as governor in the face of sexual harassment allegations. https://bit.ly/47pa8LH

Actually a travesty. Teen Vogue was a shockingly reputable publication with forward thinking politics that reflected the generations it represented. I've worked with several media companies in my career. Watched multiple go through "reorg" after "reorg" where competent people got axed over politics.

Show me your area’s free media mix — radio, tv — with its local ads and I can pretty much tell you about your local ruling class, your social hierarchy, and labor market. Show me your grocery stores and I can fill in the rest!

It’s not as true that there are distinct media worlds as it was 15 years ago, but moving between media worlds this way used to be one of my favorite ways to learn a cultural geography.
As a person who grew up in a big city, it was educational to drive through rural areas and only hear country music, Christian music, Christian talk radio, and politically right leaning talk radio as the options on the radio.

Indeed. And since the World Meteorological Organization retires the names of the most destructive storms, this will also probably be last time that a tropical cyclone is assigned the name Melissa in the Atlantic Basin.
I think this is my first namesake storm.
Hearing your name along with words like catastrophic, devastating, monster, life-threatening is… disconcerting.
🙏 for Jamaica and everyone in her path.

The Hurricane Center's 8 a.m. advisory says, "Wind speeds atop and on the windward sides of hills and mountains could be up to 30 percent stronger than the near-surface winds indicated in this advisory, and in some elevated locations could be even greater." (160)(1.3) = 208 mph. #Melissa #Jamaica

Why did Indiana University attack and cut its own student newspaper?
Well, in a twist of irony any English professor would call clichéd, it turns out IU did it because they were angry about the students' reporting on a FIRE report naming IU as the worst public university for free speech in the US.

It takes 30 days to grow a radish. Also 2/3 of the country is already in or entering winter.
On Threads, the usual suspects are telling ppl about to lose SNAP benefits to just start a garden. As a gardener, I had to laugh. You need at LEAST an acre of land to feed a family of 4. Start-up costs are enormous. But yes, subsistence farming on the balcony of your rental apartment is the answer
