By adopting the Right’s framing and problem diagnosis on immigration, Democratic leaders have not merely been compromising on a policy issue, they have been lending legitimacy to the very core of the ethno-nationalist project - basically telling voters the Trumpists are kinda right, actually.
immigration +4 is what happens when the entire Dem establishment goes “well republicans are completely right about immigration being an existential menace and we’re actually the tough ones”
