It absolutely is! And not to be too woke on main, but it comes from the fact that a lot of people hate or are embarrassed by their child selves, depending on how they were treated as a child, and are loathe to give that version of themselves any credit for anything positive they know or have become.
this is probably more common than we think

Lit mag friends: I have a couple of undergrads who would be amazing readers for your journal. And one is looking for a summer internship, specifically (for grad hours, unpaid).

Anyone have a spot to offer?

If you’re baking and using brown sugar, and some of it shakes out in small clumps, here’s my go-to kitchen pro tip…

You eat them.

They’re little treats.

You deserve it.

Can we please help this writer and these cats?
did, but now the amount of money I need to have by my move in date has jumped significantly. If you have $5, $10, $50 to spare, it would make a huge difference for me (and my cats). Between legal and moving expenses, my budget is shot all the way through. If you can contribute, that's amazing, and

The rich have shamed poor people into silence to such an extent that almost no one knows how absolutely crushing it is to be poor in this country.

If nothing else, the vote results from yesterday suggest that, no matter what is happening in Congress or the White House, the people know they still have the power to affect change at the local level.

A busy first day as your Mayor-elect: early morning interviews, transition announcements and meetings. More to say on all of it tomorrow.

But a highlight was lunch with my Congresswoman @aoc.bsky.social at Laliguras Bistro in Jackson Heights.

Been a weird year to celebrate an anniversary, tho less weird than our 25th in 2020, but I think three decades of hub city--press, bookshop, lit org--is worth celebrating. If a sustainable and vital literary organization can continue to exist in dark red SC, books can truly come from everywhere.
🎉THAT'S HOW IT WORKS: 30 YEARS OF FICTION FROM HUB CITY PRESS is out today! With an intro by @megireid.bsky.social, this anthology is a celebration of 3 decades of publishing from the margins & a testament to the transformative power of community in creating literature. Hurricane Melissa is about to slam into Jamaica as the strongest hurricane on record ever to hit them; stronger even than Hurricane Katrina.

Thinking of the people trying to ride this thing out right now. They’re going to need help once it passes, I’m worried the island will be devastated.
Jamaica is facing possible"total structural failure" as the full force of Melissa slams into the Caribbean island nation, warns the National Weather Service. www.nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at3...
