New in PN: Judge rules that anti-woke is just racism

“'I’ve never seen a record where racial discrimination was so palpable,' Judge Young fumed. 'I’ve sat on this bench now for 40 years. I’ve never seen government racial discrimination like this.'

*More of this, please*"

“A U.S. citizen!” And now he’s missing.

Adrian Martinez tried to defend a man ICE was harassing. Video shows six agents swarming him. He struggles but doesn’t lay hands on them. They take him to the ground & shove him into a CBP vehicle.

Abuse of power. Keep recording. Don’t stop.

Library of Congress staff just showed what resistance looks like. After Trump abruptly fired Dr. Carla Hayden, the respected Librarian of Congress, he tried to install Todd Blanche, his former personal lawyer and current Deputy Attorney General, as acting librarian. Staff weren’t having it.

Q: Who said this?

"Musk ... is a HIGH-RANKING government official. ... The White House has designated Musk a 'special government employee' IN CHARGE OF Establishing and Implementing the President's Department of Government Efficiency ('DOGE')."

Ans: Musk's own attorneys in a Delaware court filing.

DOJ is removing experienced, non-political career lawyers in key positions. Yesterday was ethics. Today, it’s national security. This does not bode well for good government or public safety.

Enormous response to Mike’s post. If you haven’t read it…
Some of his readers have asked Mike Masnick @mmasnick.bsky.social why his technology news site, Tech Dirt, has been covering politics so intensely lately. www.techdirt.com/2025/03/04/w...

I cannot recommend Mike's reply enough. It's exactly what readers need to hear, what journalists need to do.

5-4 was absurd. This was a clear 9-0.

Worry about the Court.
This week’s 5-4 win for federal funding was less notable for the 5 than for the 4.

This was payment for contracts the government had agreed to where the work contracted for had been properly performed. How was that not 9-0?

Medicaid has always been on the chopping block. MAGAts don't seem to get how much they are actually dependent on these programs. They see themselves as the deserving poor, not understanding that it doesn't work like that.
Republicans pushing forward on Medicaid changes, despite potential political fallout
House Republicans signaled they’re going full steam ahead on significant changes to Medicaid, despite pressure from Democrats and even some moderates in their party.

The GOP passed a budget resolution last night that will gut Medicaid, SNAP, and other vital programs — as 60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck.

Why? To finance tax cuts for the top 1%.

We have socialism in this country for the rich, harsh capitalism for everyone else.

I’d say it is impossible to explain. No almost about it
It is almost impossible to explain the sheer insanity of Elon Musk apparently having the capability to email the entire federal government evidently without getting approval from anyone—and, apparently, against the wishes of most Cabinet departments.
