Happy Labour Day! Don't forget that our right to get time off from work was hard fought for by workers organisations!

A great article on something I think about a lot: “cross-breeding ancient passive principles with contemporary design tools is one of the most promising paths forward” 🌬️

The Seattle Public Library offers a free service called "Your Next 5 Books" where you submit a form about what kinds of books you like + what you'd like to read, and a librarian writes back with their personalized recommendations. My librarian is Jane and she *gets* me on a molecular level

As someone who has had to hire, I’ll always go with folks whose skills may not totally be up to par but are friendly, collaborative, and eager to learn; rather than the dude who is bonkers talented but an absolute prick. Those people fear teams apart faster than you can blink.
There is a weird subset of artists in the industry who are hyper masculine and crazy sexist. Believe all critiques should be as harsh and demeaning as possible. Think they’re billy badasses. I’ve never understood it. We make elves and robots and rocks and plants. We’re just goofy folks who love art.

For me ZSNES UI immediately evokes Bahamut Lagoon and Voltaire's The Devil's Bris album so I guess that's how most of those hours were spent

💯💯💯

Many ancient homes all over the world had no private kitchens/food prep spaces, period! Especially if you were poor!

This is why the discovery of a largely-intact "fast food" shopfront in Pompeii was such a huge deal, a few years ago. These places rarely survive the passage of time.

I think a big chunk of why I don't read as much as I used to is not only from college related burnout (700 pages a night teaches you reading is not for fun) but also my tastes have refined? I can't just read anything anymore, it has to be well written and be about an interesting topic to me.

Coming up with a list of Medieval Revival movies to watch, starting with films like Ladyhawke, Andrei Rublev, The Name of The Rose, Virgin Territory, and A Knight's Tale. Do y'all have any recommendations holding with that theme?
