🚨 Labor is about to approve the North West Shelf carbon bomb that will release 4.3 billion tonnes over its 50-year lifespan. We cannot afford this avoidable catastrophic health decision.

📞 Call Minister Watt & ask him to put our health first by rejecting this extension (02) 6277 7320

"Rather than purchasing carbon abatement, companies may be better off directly cutting their own emissions as much as possible, by changing the way they operate."

Imagine that.

As Australia’s carbon offset industry grapples with integrity concerns, how can companies genuinely tackle climate change?
Australia has long relied on super-cheap carbon credit, despite well-established concerns about their integrity.

Climate change is getting serious but the Labor government that has just been voted back in wants to approve Woodside's North West Shelf and destroy Scott's Reef.
This only makes sense if we're taxing Woodside heavily for use in mitigation.
We should be taxing fossil fuels.

This sounds reasonable.
I agree with you Ben, I don't understand why the taxing of unrealised gains is in there. If it is designed to help people not use their super to buy housing then I think I may be all for it, but I'm not sure of the implications on other assets. Would like Labor to explain.
My view on Labor’s super plans is they’ve let the issue of taxing unrealised gains overtake the bigger picture here, which is that super has been allowed to become an absurd tax-lite wealth haven. Get rid of the unrealised stuff, but go much harder on super earnings for the very rich

Australian COVID-19 cases update:

Reported Cases have continued to rise sharply at the national level and in most states & territories.

As always, it is hard to be certain with this series; the data quality is very shoddy and the raw data is incredibly spiky.

Australia is no stranger to floods & droughts, but seeing both occur simultaneously on opposite sides of the Great Dividing Range is troubling.

As our planet warms, these extreme weather events will become more frequent & severe.
How much more devastation do our leaders need to see before they act?

I'm so pleased that @parentsforclimate.bsky.social achieved this for climate and consumer rights. Products/services that are marketed as reducing climate impacts have to do that, else it is false marketing.

I've just donated to fund more of this type of action

BY VIOLET AFFLECK I spent the January fires in Los Angeles arguing with my mother in a hotel room. She was shell-shocked, astonished at the scale of destruction in the neighborhood where she raised…

This is really concerning news. Trump's sanctions meant Microsoft blocked the ICC's prosecutor's email.

If a foreign adversary snuck into our Federal budget and cut science research and education the way we’re cutting it ourselves — strategically undermining America’s long-term health, wealth, and security — we would likely consider it an act of war.

At the federal level, the Liberals (and their origin parties) and the Nationals (and their origin parties) have been in a coalition since 1923.

This split is huge.

Tip: if someone tells you they're autistic, your first replies shouldn't be "I never would have guessed, you seem so good at social contact!" or "So what's your hypothesis as to why there are so many more autistic people now, please explain!"

Instead, think about "Thanks for trusting me!" or "Ok!"
