SCOTUS has allowed the Texas gerrymandering to go forward, and Rep Jasmine Crockett is being booted out of her seat.

She’s one of the fiercest opponents of Trump.

She fights for healthcare and SNAP.

They couldn’t beat her, so they changed the rules and got rid of her.

This is not Democracy

A highway project seriously sent from hell to torment the people of Sacramento. Good reporting from @abridgedpbskvie.bsky.social www.abridged.org/news/investi...
How rejected concrete fueled months of delays on Highway 50
Caltrans started construction on the freeway in 2021. The same concrete issue set back the completion of the Del Rio Bridge in Sacramento.

We have less freedom of the press than Moldova, Romania, Croatia and Armenia now. But cheer up, we're still ahead of Orban's Hungary.
THIS is where we are in terms of freedom of press ⬇️

"The Donald Trump administration has changed which holidays qualify for free entrance to national parks, removing two holidays celebrating Black people and adding the president’s birthday."
National parks change prioritizes Trump birthday over days honoring Black people
Free entrance days at national parks no longer include MLK Day and Juneteenth.

Reaffirming the Monroe Doctrine is a choice given the term has literally never been used in the history of the NSS. Including under the first Trump administration!

Last week @theverge.com published my essay exploring the limitations of large-language models. This week, that same essay is cited by a federal judge in Michigan to distinguish the process of human reasoning from what these models do. Very, very gratifying.

holy shit, an accurate legal critique of LLMs. LLMs don't reason because they're just stitching together plausible-looking sentences indifferent to the content

Mercedes Wells was kicked out of an ER in active labour.

She gave birth roadside in her husband’s truck.

Her water had broken before they kicked her out.

The nurse told her “I have to follow the rules. Once the doctor discharges you, you must leave”.

This is misogynoir in medicine

There's a phenomenon where every time there's a hyped labor saving miracle technology what actually happens in the end is the people doing the work just get converted from visible workers to secret workers not allowed to let anyone know what they do, with loss of protection along with visibility

A recap of tonight's special election in TN-07 (plus a WAY-TOO-EARLY model of the 2026 midterms).

A swing of 13 points would put Dems over 250 seats in the U.S. House. A more reasonable scenario—say, D+6—still gives them the House, and maybe the Senate.

What the special election in Tennessee's Seventh District means for the 2026 midterms
Republicans held a Trump +22 seat — but by only 9 points. A swing half as large would give Democrats the U.S. House in 2026, and put the Senate clearly in play
