Just watched one of Chicago’s unhinged dog owners crash out in my local custard place when the employees politely informed her of health code and said they’d serve her through the walk up window outside. She’s never going there again!!

This was me, and it’s the one thing I try to express if people ask for my thoughts:
For me it was realizing they would be my responsibility all the time except for short stretches of time, but during those times they could theoretically come back to me at any moment. Like obviously I knew this, but in reality it’s like oh wait, but I wanted to binge watch TV all day???
Before you have kids, you intellectually understand they need to eat dinner every day. But you do not understand what this means. You can't. They need to eat dinner EVERY day

Almost just hit in an all-way stop intersection, notably less than a block from my child’s school. The driver with the right of way was waiting for me to cross, and another driver decided to go—into me. Don’t worry, she didn’t notice bc she was staring at her phone while turning thru a crosswalk.

Proud of this! I credit a long Metra commute for 5 months of this year as well as deleting Instagram in February.

Many folks in the advocacy community know that efforts to lower driving speeds save lives...so in most places we're left to grapple with this reality where we know that most people and institutions choose to accept a certain amount of preventable human suffering as unavoidable collateral damage.
“Helsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas & city center in 2021.”
Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death
The capital city is Finnish’ed with car-related fatalities.

Remember the recent middle-of-the-night apartment building raid where children were dragged outside naked & zip-tied in the street while black & Latino residents were _sorted by race_ and piled into separate vans while their apartments were ransacked & robbed? That raid? So it resulted in 0 arrests.

UPS “verify you are human” holiday commercial is clever, sweet, and anti-AI. 👌🏼

It’s really just barely better than nothing, but I took a last-minute Amtrak to Michigan for less than $100 round trip. Imagine if we had a real, functioning train system in this country!!

When you leave in a car you’re thinking “what’s the fastest way to get there?”

When I leave on my bike I’m thinking “what’s the safest way to get there?”

We are not the same

Chicago when?!
This is a small snow plow for sidewalks

If your city plows the roads but leaves sidewalks up to property owners, your city hates pedestrians.

This sucks! I know my RadWagon is far from the top of the line, but it allowed my family to replace car trips in suburban Detroit, and we love it so much.
NEW: Rad Power Bikes has told employees it will go out of business in January without new funding.

The company said in a staff email that it had a "very promising" option to stay alive, but whatever that was, it fell apart.

The carnage caused by FAA cutbacks cast a spotlight on the massive public subsidies required to have air travel function in the US. People think spending money on bike lanes and rail is socialism while TRILLIONS have been spent to prop up the airline industry and to build and maintain roadways.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.
