If you have time I can’t recommend listening to this enough. Some of the darkest and most consequential days of our history are upon us and the only thing standing in autocracy’s way is the will of decent people. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

If you thought a lot of Solar and Wind were being plugged into ERCOT before wait until these lines are built.
The Texas Public Utility Commission’s staff has recommended that the commission approve construction of three 765-kV transmission lines.

Hello Bluesky and #energysky! It’s been a while but twitter is fully toxic and so I think I’ll be here more.

To that end here is a fun chart of my personal vehicle’s fuel efficiency. Given budget constraints (EV’s premiums) and lifecycle emissions—PHEVs are a nice technology.

Really good post from @douglewin.bsky.social about Texas's hypocritical energy policy, featuring my piece on the natural gas turbine shortage! Thanks @kadebrasel.bsky.social for sharing it with me.

Take it to the bank!🤠🔋⚡️
- clean energy accounted for 42% generation in ‘24
- but gas is up 1% from it’s 19yr rolling avg

Physics does not care about our politics, and ultimately the world will continue to warm until we get global emissions of CO2 to (net) zero.

New: Updated U.S. Government Emissions Projections

Emissions are expected to decline 29-46% by 2030, 36-57% by 2035, and 34-64% by 2040, compared with 2005 levels. This represents about double the 2030 emissions reductions projected before the passage the IRA & BIL 🔌💡

If you want the world to take climate change seriously, acknowledging that areas are uninsurable as a result of climate change is a very basic step. You're going to see 'you must offer insurance' mandated largely by *the right* in an attempt to deny climate reality.
I know a solution for these insurance companies.

1) idk, the green new deal seems good 2) ceteris paribus i think it’s good to know which direction, between extremes, we should head and 3) the inability to discern between “extremes” is the point of the op
I’m pretty sure there are superior alternatives to either of these extremes.
Let’s get one thing straight: the cost of the Green New Deal is far less than the cost of losing our planet to the climate crisis.

Good people—please don’t give in to and use the phrase, ‘energy expansion’. 1) it’s not accurate, clean energy is DISPLACING ff and 2) it’s intentionally used to obfuscate the main goal of the energy transition/clean energy—to mitigate carbon emissions and address climate change!

Am I in the weeds studying capacity mechanism/market design—yes. Did the PUCT kill the PCM today—also yes.

It might be the most frequently used term in Texas energy world.

Ig it means “just a bit of climate change and a bit of sustainability”
I truly loathe the phrase "all of the above."

A wicked challenge in deep decarb of the power—at least cost-effectively—is the abundance of cheap gas. Ironically, exporting LNG could change this(?): by increasing global demand, raising domestic prices, thus making clean firm relatively competitive, it might accelerate decarb in U.S. power

A cautionary tale unfolded last week as Denmark failed to attract bids for offshore wind. What can we learn from this?

This is a multi-dimensional problem, but the primary lesson I believe is that Denmark wrongly expected developers to take on market risk. 🧵🔌💡1/9

Failed offshore auction highlights how Denmark missed winds of change
Denmark's failure to attract any bids in an offshore wind power tender this week stems from a rigid auction model, a failure to adapt to a changed economic reality for renewable energy projects and rising competition, analysts said on Friday.

The United States has the highest GDP in the world by *ten trillion dollars*. It's not even close. Americans should retire at 60 w/ full pension. We should have free universal healthcare. We should have free PreK-PhD education. This belt-tightening ideology is a neurotoxin limiting our potential.
