"Common sense" is unproven folklore.
The single worst thing one can do in an art museum is stand in front of the works, in everyone else's way, and have a conversation one could have had over coffee, instead of IN AN ART MUSEUM.

A friend just asked, "If kleptocracy is government by theft, what is government by revenge?"

I don’t want to read about a former President’s mental decline because a journalist got a book deal.

I want to read a report about the current President’s mental decline by a journalist brave enough to speak out now.

I'm totally aware that I'm spitting in the wind right here, but PLEASE can't we retire such ridiculous niceties as "God rest their soul" and "passed away" instead of "died"? Look death in her mutherfucking face, people.

Overheard, dude on his phone, Upper West Side: "She was seen eating dinner in the West Village, so that's why I suggested the West Village."

Honey, if you're looking for Tay-Tay, you might as well try a Ouija Board.

So I'm at a bar I'm always drawn to when near it, and wondering why.

Best I can figure? GenX Ironic Ethos.

Cool bar, BTW, should you be in NYC:

Trailer Park.

Just listening to Beck's "Where It's At" and wondering whether it would be legally possible to pass a dutchie from coast to coast in the US. Apparently not yet.

This isn’t true at all. White politicians have been more than willing to get physical every single time something happens that they don’t like. Democrats are just currently run by weak leaders who care more about being comfortable than having principled stances on anything.
People are seeing in real time with black people and other people of color already knew: that whiteness runs on politeness and decorum. They cannot imagine upsetting the order by getting physical or yelling because that's Just not how it's done. Lesser, common, or POC make noise, they do not
I know it sounds crazy, but actually showing physical courage and risking their personal safety IS a strategy & kind of a good one. Forcing the authoritarian to physically batter members of the government—on camera—would do more than any Nay vote from the minority position in either house.

like the dictators they worship, the american right cannot distinguish between the aesthetic and appearance of power and actual power
i genuinely wonder if the right realizes that this basically means that a lot of US soft power will basically evaporate in the next 4 years

If GSA sold 7,500 buildings at once, the question is who would buy them.

Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union gives us the answer to that: a handful of oligarchs. They'd get billions of dollars in real state for a song, which they could lease back to government for a handsome profit.

President Musk is stripping down the country and almost literally selling it for parts.

I'd point out the hypocrisy of all of this, but the hypocrisy is the point.

This is an excellent summary of our situation, which is quite bad.

It’s not just that they’re breaking laws. They’re breaking laws that are centrally important to our constitutional order and are constitutive of its identity. They are targeting the best parts of what democracy has built here.
Ignore the media headlines reporting that freezing federal spending or shuttering federal agencies “raise questions” or “push boundaries.” It’s an anticonstitutional lawbreaking spree.
Breaking the Law
Just weeks in, the Trump administration has violated rules, laws, and the Constitution.
