Mostly using @jumile@mas.to 🐘 as this place is... ugh.

IT nerd. Lots of interests. Empathy isn't a character fault.

If you post/share a lot of political content or outrage, don't be upset if I don't follow back. You're probably awesome, but that isn't.

Brief intro: I joined the bird site in 2007 and used it regularly until a few years ago, then ended up on the elephant site.

Now I figure it's worth checking out what this place is all about, and I'm pleased to rediscover some nice folks I knew from, uh, the bad place. 👋

"When nations grow old, the arts grow cold and commerce settles on every tree." -William Blake (via A.Word.A.Day)

Boy does this 200 year old quote seem accurate and relevant.

Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

Back from an amazing wedding in London today, my second time a best man. In the subterranean crypt of an ancient church in the City with a Roman road as the background. Truly beautiful day and setting.

Shattered. Hoping the new husbando and waifu aren't as tired, as they deserve to enjoy tonight.

I am increasingly of the opinion that people who change menus and look and feel of computer software just so that you know it's a new version should be personally forced to play tech support to my mother for five months.

Great fun and flawless global launch for #WhereWindsMeet this evening. No queues, we all got straight in, and now we're learning WTF is going on. 😄

Works flawlessly on my #Linux system under Steam without any arcane wizardry necessary. 🕺 Was my primary concern.

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

New incredible detail here: ICE says a match in its facial recognition app Mobile Fortify is a "definitive" determination of a person's status, and that this overrides birth certificates. This is an app ICE is using in the field to scan people

Not a hard question, except for the culture that pretends it's not the answer

1) right-wing media lies incessantly, so anyone truth-based doesn't trust it, and anyone who trusts it doesn't trust anything else

2) other media treats those lies as legitimate, for "fairness," getting trust from no one

and if you think that if we let the BBC get destroyed what would come in its place would be *more* left-wing... I think you haven't really been paying attention to how money works, how much money tech billionaires have, and what they're doing with it in the UK media landscape *already*.

This time last week, I'd been having #insomnia so bad that I was starting to hallucinate (occasionally seeing "movement" just out of the centre of my vision, etc).

Last night I fell asleep in minutes and slept for 11 hours straight.

Headmeat eh? Hoo boy... 😒
