How did Tolkien write so much?

The answer is he didn't have two-factor authentication for every aspect of his life

Thinking of creating some snarky academic starter packs like:
Academics who think their ideas are WAY more important than they actually are
Academics who peaked a while ago
Academics whose questions are more like comments
Academics who always go over their allotted time

I wrote about the coordinated right-wing campaign to manipulate voters into believing Trump is the favorite to win the presidency, and highlighted some trustworthy data that might make you feel slightly better about things.

Such an amazing lineup!!!

Smith literally wrote the book on Shōgun & history ("Learning From Shōgun," 1980), Pitelka wrote a book on Tokugawa Ieyasu (the model for "Toranaga"), Berry wrote a book on Ieyasu's predecessor Hideyoshi (the "Taikō"), and Hubbard wrote a book on English sailors c.1600.
Mark your calendars!

MJHA presents a roundtable of historians reflecting on the history of James Clavell's novel Shōgun and film adaptations past and present, May 2 from 7-8:30pm EDT, featuring scholars of both early modern Japan and England.

Context is everything in Japanese poetry, and a poem plays a pivotal role in the climax of “Shogun.” The problem is, the subtext is difficult to understand in subtitles. Hiroko breaks it down here (mild spoilers): blog.hirokoyoda.com/p/the-art-of...

There are a lot of problems that beset academia. This 👇 is one of the worst. How can we defend ourselves from the Rufos and DeSantises of the world when many of us can't even respect our colleagues enough to help equitably distribute labor?
A study on what many of us already know: over 75% of internal service work in academia is done by women. The bit that gets me:”The male associate professors in particular made it clear that they actively engaged in evasiveness and did not want to participate if it was not positive for their careers”
Women end up doing the academic housework

Trying to make the point in recent discussions that scheduling lectures at 5:15 or later is not good for all kinds of good reasons and bakes inequity into an already inequitable system. Can folks help me remember where the data is to support stopping at 5?
