This story is right out of some Blade Runner dystopia. Medical products backed by publicly funded research should be required to put relevant intellectual property in a “reserve” that, if they go bankrupt or even if they just stop supporting a device like an implant, gets automatically open sourced.
Hell, your EYES could be gone. At this point if I don't own a copy I assume it can disappear at any second if some imaginary line goes down

Old-growth forests sequester much more carbon than younger forests. It makes more sense to focus on not cutting down trees rather than planting new trees since it takes two to three decades for trees to reach full maturity, if they survive. 🧪

Can't see anything wrong with this.
